RLS post-op? Pain a symptom?

I'm 74 & following a L. Knee replacement I began having RLS--the day after. I didn't pay much attention to it as the knee pain from surg. was the main blip on my radar. Now (10 mo. later) the knee's fine but he RLS is prominent. I control it well with 1.0 mg Ropinirole at nite, but the last several nites I've had a sharp pain in the top of my ankle in my R. foot. It wakes me up, I shift position, it goes away only to happen again--repeatedly & it's with me most of the day--only less so. Q: Is pain part of the RLS disease?--it started out only invol. movement. Q: Is RLS likely caused by Surgery (I never had it all until post-op)? Q: is it temporary? (I hope so).

Views vary on pain and RLS. Each person has a different threshold.

I get no pain at all, but have had severe tickling, uncomfortable feelings and uncontrollable aggravation. Is that pain?

Post op RLS may ,in many cases be due to withdrawal symptoms from painkillers used ( and anaesthetics) during the operation. But generally, the painkillers would be continued after the op.

Yours appeared, very quickly. Puzzling.

The toe pain would be unrelated to RLS, but may be an effect of differential gait due to walking differently with the new regime.

A good physio should be able to help.

Certainly get back to the hospital to sort it out.

Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I have an appt. with a neurologist (1st time I've seen other than a GP) and this forum gives me thoughts for a lot of questions.--Knowledge is Power.
