Good evening or good morning depending on whereabouts on this planet you hang your hat.
I’ve been up for 48 hours so far and I think I am losing my mind! I tried to go to bed an hour ago, thinking that I might just get a little sleep but oh no, not even 10 minutes. So I’m back in the kitchen doing the dance we all know so we’ll. my legs feel like jelly coz I’ve been up for so long. I can’t even sit in a flippin chair! My whole body is shaking and I don’t know if it’s because I’m so tired or if it’s my rls which in my case should be rbs restless body syndrome. I’m sorry for moaning on but I am at the end of my tether!

I cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling. Do you have no medication that could give you a little respite? Such total exhaustion is draining both mentally as well as physically. I can offer empathy, just wish there was more I could say or suggest. I can only hope you have good medical support.
Thanks avallon, I do have meds but nothing is helping tonight so I’m just going to have to grin and bear it. I love to paint and sometimes it can be a great distraction but the way I’m shaking tonight could change the leapord im currently working on into something totally different!
If I’m still awake in an hour I’m going to drag the dog out of bed and take him for a walk over the fields.
Well if the painting looks anything like a Jackson Pollock 🤔 I'll have it, one day it'll be worth a fortune Bella, so it's not all bad!
Sorry don't mean to be flippant, just trying to lift your spirits, poor love, I am often and usually nearly every night in the same place as you, though obvs not in your kitchen. 😉
Good evening. What you're experiencing sounds horrendous and I hope you've managed some sleep since.
I have been in the same situation myself and it seemed there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
What I write may be of no consolation or help, but maybe some idea I have may give you some hope.
I have no intention of trivialising, diminishing or dismissing your experience.
Firstly, it's a really poor analogy, forgive me, but you can't kill yourself by holding your breath. If you're greatly determined you may actually hold your breath long enough that you pass out through lack of oxygen. If you do manage to lose consciousness, you will automatically start breathing again!
So with sleep, it's probably almost impossible to go without any sleep at all for any amount of time, without risking serious short term consequences. There have been experiments ( and torture techniques) where that has been attempted. Considering that nobody's deliberately trying to torture you, if anything REALLY serious were to happen, you would be sedated!
Hopefully, that can be avoided.
My other thought, which may find difficult to accept is that you are "struggling" may be struggling unnecessarily and the struggling in itself may be worsening the situation.
I have myself experienced shaking or twitching, sometimes I would have said quite violently. Admittedly never so violently that I was unable to prevent injury.
Naturally, you want to stop this because it IS uncomfortable and it prevents sleep. Assu!ing, that if you weren't shaking, you would sleep and it's sleep you want.
However, intuition isn't always the right thing to follow.
"Struggling" to stop shaking, or simply "struggling" to go to sleep in itself will prevent sleep.
Struggling also might entail doing things that are risky or need energy, (at a time when we don't have much). E.g. taking the dog for a walk in the middle of the night.
Consider, it might be better not to struggle to try and stop the shaking. If you don't struggle you won't sleep. If you struggle you won't sleep anyway.
A suggestion, wrap yourself in a warm blanket lie on the sofa and just let the shaking happen. Watch a movie whilst it's happening. It occupies the time and it may distract you from the shaking.
I always found the restless legs sensations far worse than twitching and relaxing "into" the twitching lessens the likelihood of spasms
hi, been using CBD 5% for last 12 months and nothing has changed or improved . Use 8drops (4 in morning then 4 at night). But sorry to say nothing has improved I will stop taking when bottle is finished.
My only release from RLS is 1pill of Shoretec then 1 tablet of Tramadol 50 mg this gives me 5 hours rest from RLS. You will then get some sleep.
Good idea but I only have a shower so not quite as comfortable sitting in a hot hub. Got a large Belfast kitchen sink though, so at a push I could try squeezing into that but doubt I would get much water in at same time!
Nows there's an image no one wants in their heads 🛀
Sorry, not being flippant it's just that humour is something us RLS folk need, to cope. 🥳
I know exactly where you are at. Was there a few weeks ago with no sleep for two days also. A hot(not too hot) bath will hopefully relax you enough to fall asleep although I might have waited too long. It improved greatly but came back quickly after. I recently started on medical marijuana due to a terrible back and was able to get off pain meds although I still have moments where I question my decision. To the positive, my rls has decreased quite a bit. Not sure if it’s the THC or the CBD but something is working. Best of luck. Let me know if you need a partner in this.
Usually after days awake the rls will give in and let you sleep. I was up for 5 days twice and since then I rarely go half a night without sleep so things will look up.
