Pramipexole
I have been taking Pramipexole for over a year now with really good results. I was in hospital recently and was nil by mouth. I wasn't able to take my tablets and was in absolute agony!
It's great that Pramipexole is working for you, it can be very effective.
Just be aware as the prescriber should have told you, Pramipexole may have some longer term problems The 3 main risks are loss of efficacy, augmementation and Impulse Control Disorder. Loss of efficacy (it ceasing to work) and augmentation are quite common with Pramipexole.
Up to 38% of people taking Pramipexole suffer augmentation with this drug after taking it 5 years and up to 60% after 8 to 10 years.
I suggest you read the pinned posts about augmentation on this site.
Augmentation is such a significant problem that some doctors no longer prescribe a dopamine agonist such as pramipexole for a first treatment.
The higher the dose of pramipexole you take, the greater the risk of augmentation. You can reduce the risk by taking a low a dose as possible. You are already taking a significant dose.
I suggest that under no circumstances should you ever increase the dose, even if the prescriber advises it. If it stops working, it would be best to switch to another RLS medication.
