I'm trying hard to reduce my dependence on pramipexole but finding it hard. I was taking a 0.5mg and a 0.26mg daily. I have knocked off the 0.26mg but still suffering badly with insomnia and twitches especially at night so sleep is almost impossible unless I take zopiclone. I realise I was and still am taking high dosage of pramipexole and 0.26mg is a third off my dosage so I suppose I have to accept that I will feel bad I will see if my gp will help but not hopeful.

You need to go down much slower.

I think we talked about this before.

Mirapex comes in 0.088 doses.

Go down by one of these each week until you finish.

Any quicker ,and you are asking for trouble.

Thank you you’re right we have talked about this before and each time I’ve failed to get a grip but I see my HP on the 15th and I’ll try to get a lower dose my pramipexole I take are extended release should that make a difference?

Being on slow release may make a difference, but you still have to reduce slowly. Reducing "normal" Pramipexole can be achieved by cutting the tablets with something very sharp. I also recall this may have been mentioned n previous posts.

Unfortunately, you may wish to check this yourself, but it appears you cannot cut extended release Pramipexole. The reason for this may be that cutting it destroys the release mechanism.

Do ask your GP, it may be that you have to switch to the normal release tablets.

The other thing is, again, I believe again mentioned before, if you stop taking Pramipexole, you need something to replace it. You would have been better to sort that out before reducing Pramipexole.

Ask your GP about that too.

I stopped Pramipexole a year ago and have been taking 2.5 mg of LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) twice daily. This has been a life changer for me. I also take about 3 to 4 mg of CBD/ THC in edible form an hour before bed which prevents any nighttime twitching and helps me sleep.

I have also found that using Nighttime Leg Calm essential oil blend by Nature’s. inventory on my low back along with 3 sublingual tabs of Hyland’s Restful Legs homeopathic tabs gives me immediate relief if I ever need it in the middle of the night.

Good luck.
