Hi, my wife wants me to try acupuncture. I am sure someone out there has tried it. Does it work or will I be wasting my money as I suspect.

I did try it for around half a dozen sessions but didn’t really make a difference to me, however I think you should try it, one thing I have learnt from this forum is that everyone reacts differently to each type of treatment. Best of luck

I tried it years ago, the lady who i saw said she also had RLS but it was mild. It didnt work for me, she said if its not working after a few sessions then its not going to work.. it is expensive so i was glad for her honesty.

I think accupuncture is a real pin in the neck :)

Tried it for pain many many moons ago with no results. If you can afford it though its worth a shot, Jebus ANYTHING is worth a shot if you can spare the cash. If you can't maybe bypass it. but as phantom388 says:

one thing I have learnt from this forum is that everyone reacts differently to each type of treatment.

I tried accupuncture some years ago, both from a private practitioner, and in a Chinese clinic. Sadly, the only thing I was relieved of was my money - quite a lot of it.

I should have added that I have had some success with acupuncture in the past, with arthritic pain (though I still needed surgery in the end), but not with RLS.

I've had acupuncture. I read somewhere that acupuncture is good for all sorts of things, I csn't remember where I read it, so it's obviously not good for the memory.

I saw an osteopath for my nerve pain. he also does acupuncture, he bent me backwards to a position I don't recall being in since I was born, ( I actually heard my spine crack), and then he stuck needles in my leg.

I paid for it.

It worked. Then I would have to say that, people do, because otherwise they'd have to admit they're an idiot.

I've read that somewhere. I can't remember where I read it.

Have I said that before?

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if you are saying it works or not. If it does then how often does it need doing.

This is an interesting and very specific case study.

The problem with acupuncture is that everybody seems to think they can do it, so the first issue would be to find a properly trained practitioner.

Couldn’t agree more!

That’s the problem with acupuncture and with people having it.

The method is effective, but only if done properly. And thinking only Chinese are the best in it is ridiculous. Just because it happened to be originating from China doesn’t mean they are the best in it, considering the fact of invention of new relations of the points or needles used that aren’t even close to what the Chinese think about it.

Best to find a person trained in Tung, microacupuncture, balance (TAN) acupuncture. These are on the top at the moment and use neurological and fascial aspect of the human body. Totally different system.

I tried it. I had really good results using acupuncture to help carpel tunnel syndrome so wanted to give it a try. I found a doctor of Chinese medicine who practices near me. She was positive it would help...

I had three sessions but ended up having to give up as the treatment caused such horrible RL while I was having it that I couldn't bear it. The needles in my calves triggered the urge to move horrendously and involuntary spasms with the needles in was so painful! I gave up in the end as I couldn't endure it any more.

Good luck it if you try it, I wouldn't NOT try it because someone else had problems. We all seem to respond differently but it was expensive though I did get a bit of money back from my health insurance.

I tried it for about three months but to be honest it didn’t really help me.

Different things work for different people, so it's hard to say if it will work. I went to one a few years ago and after a few weeks the acupuncturist said it should have been working because it works quickly. She suspected it was one of my medications. Which we all know on here is probably true. It's worth a try since it may work for you. Good luck.

acupuncture.

I went to the top acupuncture centre in the UK- based in Camden with visiting professors from China.

They were honest and said it wouldn’t help RLS but gave me a session anyway and then suggested I tried Chinese herbs. The herbs didn’t work either- but my neighbours complained about the stench (you boil them in a large pan & the smell & taste is obscene).

I personally wouldn’t waste your money. I think I’ve bought/ tried everything over the years and nothing has helped so I’m now very sceptical.

Thanks for the reply and the honesty. I did not think it would work.

Hi

I've never had it done medically but sometimes get stupid enough to stick pins & needles in the fat of my stomach & of course take them straight out again - I can get an idea of how much fat is on my stomach -I cant afford surgery to have it cut out or drained out. Its the only place where it doesnt hurt when I stick needles in it
