Did anyone watch chanel 5 programme on sleep disorders ? Dopamine angst ....no mention of augmentation !
No real answer. : Did anyone watch... - Restless Legs Syn...
No real answer.
I watched it , just looking at the video of her you could see she had RLS, rubbing her arms cant sleep because of her legs stopping her sleeping and her arms, and its voluntary movements NOT involuntary movements, those of us who suffer with RLS, rarely learn anything new from these programmes. Knew she would be offered a DA. even tho she didnt take it because of having IVF treatment and meditation can relax you but doesnt stop the RLS just helps you cope better, so they say.
Have recorded the programme and will watch tomorrow....so, yet again, no 'cure'.... surprise, surprise...really need some answers as have had RLS tonight and have come to bed early, wearing my copper bracelets...So frustrating....🙄
You wont see a cure presented on a programme like this . You will get more answers on this forum than any where else.
I know more from this forum.......just wondered what they were going to come up with on the programme .
Very unimpressed with Colin Espie, the sleep doctor who stated ‘ her iron is fine’. I’ll bet it wasn’t- and if she gets pregnant her iron levels will worsen. He was going to put her straight onto a DA, even though experts in the USA now recommend iron first and then pregabalin or Gabapentin or horizant to prevent Augmentation.
But at least he took it seriously and confirmed it’s serious and usually needs medication to treat properly.
Baby steps......
Yes Jools, as you say Baby steps.............but doesn’t it just make you so angry!!!?? I hardly dare watch these programmes, always disappointed......this wretched condition makes people suicidal and nobody in power seems to care.
Absolutely. We really need a properly researched programme with top doctors discussing ALL possible treatment, meds and side effects like augmentation. The only problem is that even the specialists are in disagreement. Dr Kirsty Anderson doesn’t think low iron is an issue as long as serum ferritin is above 75 and a number of specialists still believe DAs should be first line treatment. It does make me despair at times.
These shows aren't out to highlight 'cures' or even the latest proper research. They are an entertainment program with just enough 'medical' information thrown in to grab peoples attention.
They are looking for people afterwards to be going:
"Oh, our Mabel - I was watching a thing on the telly last night and looks like you have restless legs."
Rather than "Oh Mavis, did you see the latest research into deep brain stimulation for RLS, its still in the experimental stages but I've donated £50000 to research and have managed to get my name down on a waiting list for test subjects."
TV is to entertain, (and brainwash), not a forum for advances in medical science, (usually).
My lovely caring Mum rang me to alert me to this program but I didn’t watch it for the very reasons mentioned, ie for us sufferers rls is usually very incompletely and inaccurately portrayed. There is no definitive ‘Cure’ as things stand, and we are often the experts on various methods to alleviate and help us cope with this debilitating and distressing syndrome .
Thank to ALL for the amazing resource of sharing knowledge and of mutual encouragement and support found here. It s much appreciated 😊 X
