DAO tablets worked for me

I had RLS, it was fairly mild although unpleasant when I had it, and was accompanied by other symptoms, especially sudden excessive tiredness. It seemed to come on in the evening after eating or drinking certain things, like crisps, alcohol, cheese etc. For me, after many years of trying different things, it turned out to be related to histamine instolerance, and when I dealt with that using DAO tablets (daosin, daofood etc with food), the RLS went away. Just posting this on the off chance it helps anyone else. Good luck in resolving your issues to anyone experiencing this condition.

Have never heard of these tablets...Available over the counter or on prescription? I am trying slow release iron tablets, folic acid, copper bracelets etc....And reducing sugary drinks and alcohol. Noticed a slight improvement but no actual cure.

Yes, the histamine connection is important. Thanks for reminding us.

Thanks for sharing. I've just looked dao tablets up on t'internet.I admit I've never heard of them before but it's very interesting. I always overreact to insect bites etc so it's another thing in the arsenal of weapons against the dreaded RLS that may help. I'll give it a go. Did it work instantly or did it take some time?

Thanks for this reminder - I just spent a sleepless night after realizing I started a collagen supplement along with fermented foods and it might just be the histamine intolerance. Good article here... factvsfitness.com/dao-defic...

That's interesting that it helped you as I am just starting a DAO supplement to deal with food and drink related triggers. I am trying a non-animal product. Thanks for your post.

Thanks for the comments, and sorry it's taken a while to reply. I get DAOfood tablets from Amazon or Spanish based pharmacies (I'm in the UK). Over time it's turned out that changing my diet (to avoid higher histamine foods - too many to mention but fairly easy to google) is as important as taking the tablets, but the change in diet and use of tablets is a game changer, and removes all my symptoms completely, including mild RLS.

I'm sure that's not the answer for everybody, but I hope it helps at least some people, who like me may have a lack of DAO enzyme in the body meaning histamine from food isn't degraded quickly enough and causes multiple issues. I think I always had it mildly looking back, but the real trigger for it worsening for me was some abdominal surgery I had about 7 years ago, so it's very nice to be back in control of things after so long.

Just some info for @Sampsie - after trying the normal animal based DAO (think it's obtained from pigs?) and having so much success, I tried to switch to the plant-based alternative DAO product too, but to my great disappointment they didn't work for me and I had to switch back.
