A big thank you for all of you who replied to my previous posts.
I know there's no cure and what works for one doesn't for another. At the moment my rls is under control but I can't get any sleep. I tried all the usual stuff to no avail and gave had to resort to zopiclone again if I don't I can't sleep simple as that it's not ideal but what else can I do? At bedtimes I feel tired and I'm sure I will sleep but sleep doesn't come and I feel on edge irritable and frightened I feel as though I will die!!!sometimes my body gives a sever jerk which is frightening and I lay there hour after hour waiting for it to jerk again sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't !!
My anxiety level is high and I worry that there is something awfully wrong with me.
I used to be such a fit positive person but my confidence is shot at. I know if I could sleep I would revert to my old self again but it's the chicken and egg or catch 22 syndrome maybe time will sort the problem out but at the moment it seems a million miles away.

Hi Hoochybaby, how are you? Ah, needn't I ask, I know. You are miserable, horrible, exhausted, achy and feel like you just want to end it all. Does that sound familiar?' Insomnia is maddening and debilitating, relentless in its nature and unforgiving to no end. Now we throw a little gasoline (RLS) into the already lit fire (Insomnia), and KABOOM! Life as we, the sufferers, know it, couldn't be worse! In other words, I understand exactly what you are going through and even though I don't have the answers, I want you to know that you are not alone. This is a fantastic site and the folks on HealthUnlocked are some of the most knowledgeable and caring individuals you could meet. Best of luck to you Hoochybaby!
Sorry to hear about this Hoochybaby.
It's anxiety that's now preventing you from sleeping. The more difficult you find it to sleep, the more anxious you get. The more anxious you get, the more difficult it is to sleep.
It is really bad to lie there hour after hour, this is conditioning you into being afraid of being in bed. More anxiety. If you don't fall asleep within 15 minutes of going to bed, then get up!
I quite often get a jerk when I'm falling alseep. It's called a "hypnagogic jerk" . It feels like you've just fallen off something. It's quite common, not unusual and will do you no harm. It;s another thing you're getting anxious about.
It sounds to me that you may be suffering from either General Anxiety Disorder or an Acute Anxiety State. I think it might be best to see your doctor about this and ask for some help.
As I said in my previous replies....bearing in mind we are all different. Try Indian tonic water by Schweppes-has quinine in it...combine with stand up leg stretches...stretch legs out behind you...very hard. DO NOT HAVE ANY SWEET STUFF ...INCLUDING FRUIT BEFORE GOING TO BED...VERY IMPORTANT. See how u go. Wayne from oz.
Hi, if you are in the US and in a state that’s it’s legal you might try kratom. It’s the only thing that works for me, the drugs the doctor gave me made my rls worse and it also is great for anxiety and depression. It’s a amazing plant. I also have fibromyalgia and it stops my pain better than any of the strong painkillers do. I was on methadone for 18 years and I used kratom to get off of the drug and found out it also worked for pain and stops the rls. I was really lucky because I had bought some because I had found out it will get you thrust withdrawals with little to no withdrawal symptoms. People have been using it to get off things like her ion and even alcohol. Anyways look into it, it is safe don’t let the negative things you might read scare you, most all of it’s nonsense. The drug companies have come up with a synthetic for of the stuff in kratom and have been lobbying to have it made illegal so they is a lot of bad info out there, it’s perfectly safe and people have been using it for hundreds,of years with no deaths or anything. Anyways look into it, try the American kratom association for some good info. I wish you luck though I also have had insomnia on and off for 30 years and so far this is the only thing that has worked... well there was the lunesta the Dr. gave me but it gave me such a awful metallic taste in my mouth I had to stop taking it. It was awful and didn’t go away until I stopped taking the drug. I try to stay away from drugs now as they are not good for you and usually the bad outweighs the good in them.
I’ve been taking Trazadone for years. Helps a lot.
I know how you feel because it wasnt too long ago that i was suffering with insomnia. Mine was a side effect of my pramipexole but when my gp prescribed me Solpadol ( this was because i had weaned off the morphine ) to help the pain i have from chronic back pain, i slept and still do now. I know nothing works forever but we all make the most of what does help. I take gabapentin but because i have taken it for over 5 years it doesnt really make me sleep or help with my RLS. Good luck
