Norco
You don't have to take Norco to suffer constipation, any opiate will cause it.
Generally, to prevent constipation you need to do the following -
Take lots of fibre in your diet, fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, bran and wholemeal bread etc
Drink lots of water.
If they're available where you live, take regular doses of Lactulose or Fybogel every day. When I've needed to, I've taken 10 mLs Lactulose 3 X a day.
If you haven't "been" for 3 days take a gentle oral laxative e.g. senna or senokot.
If you've not been for 5 to 7 days you will need to use suppositories or an enema. You can ask a pharmacist about this.
It's best to prevent constipation rather than wait til you get it because regular laxative use can worsen it.
If I don’t eat at least 8/9 portions of vegetables a day and drink 4/5 pints of water I too suffer from constipation.
If it happens I increase my dose of magnesium citrate late at night slightly and it helps both the RLS and the constipation.
As Manerva advises, it is common with opioids and essential to keep one step ahead of it as constipation can worsen the RLS.
Dear Friend, The best thing I find for constipation is to eat beans, legumes, brown rice and bran. I put a dessertspoon of rice bran in my porridge, or I have beans on toast, or lentils on toast, or brown rice and dates and savoury yeast. All of these work well. Rice bran is fine and brown and as a nice flavour. Hope this helps.
I have been taking Narco for both my RLS and back damage for years, to address constipation I take a daily dose of Miralax and include multiple fruits and vegetables. If I experience any difficulty, I have found that smooth move tea (available at most grocery stores) also works as a more immediate solution. Also, you can take more than one dose of Miralax if need, but need to be sure to drink extra water. Hope this helps.
