Has anyone ever experienced help for RLS from a chiropractor? I noticed one was recommended by the RLS Foundation. But I saw him today and I was a bit discouraged. Any thoughts?

I have used a chiropractor many times for back problems, but I never noticed any difference in my rls. The only thing that's affected that is a change of diet to low carb and added nutrients.

Chiropractor did not help my RLS one bit

It certainly helps some people- particularly those with spines or bones out of alignment.

I saw a chiropractor with specialist neurological expertise and although he didn’t improve my RLS he did show me some useful exercises which definitely stop the twitches in the middle of the night. Basically they are pilates exercises done lying in bed with a theraband - called the clam. They allow me to fall back to sleep within 10/15 minutes.

Yes the chiropractor route is a complete waste of time. I talked to that guy too.

What's worked for me with no fail whatsoever for more than a year now is:

5mg Methadone. That's what works. I've added Wellbutrin and now life is peaches!

Methadone is the best way to address this issue bar none!

where are you located, and who/what did you go to for the methadone? I have been taking morphine time release plus gabapentin for less than 2 months, and I am noticing that i feel more tired during the day than I would like to feel.

Does anyone know if Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota also works with methadone? that is a 5 hour drive from me, and I am thinking about making an appointment and waiting the 3 months until I could get in.

Chiropractor's are awesome for your overall health. The whole point of a Chiropractor is to put your body in the correct alignment for your body to work at it's full potential. They can help with so many ailments and conditions. I know they help me with my RESUME AND, but I also need meds to assist in the control of the craziness and pain. I need to take the time to see what makes a difference, like keeping a diary of my day, but it it hard to get in the habit of it with all we have to do already.

Three things help me.1. Low carb/Low sugar diet 2. Stay away from artificial sweeteners. 3. Last but definitely not least, my D.O. works on my sacrum and I get relief. He says my sacrum presses down on a nerve. He claims this brings relief to many of his RLS patients.

Well - here's a video that has been posted before. There might be some useful information here - he's a chiropractor. My one take away was his assessment - why are your legs moving uncontrollably? What is the advantage to your body to initiate this? It's a measure initiated by your body to increase dopamine in the brain... youtube.com/watch?v=gSzNkKb...

I used to go to the chiropractor once a month or more, and it seemed like a hamster wheel, never getting ahead. I finally started doing three exercises to help low back and hips, do these every night before bed, and I have eliminated pain and the need to go to the chiro completely. Before that, I went for years and years. All of this - absolutely no effect on my RLS. Have to take strong meds for RLS, in spite of having given up sugar and starches for 2 years now.

I have not tried chiropractor...have tried everything else...accupuncture/homeopathic/back alignment/electrical stimulation/nutrients...on and on it goes. I went and saw a neurologist...chlonazepam/valium/norco/near infrared light/that is the only thing that worked. Tried diet...Dr. Goony cure all diet a bunch of BS...did his emergency diet for 6 months lost 30 lbs...and all i could do was sleep all day...did nothing for RLS.

Did have bad veins collapsed and that did get rid of the muscle spasms...muscles would get as hard as a rock...given up on finding a cure for it. It is a disease caused by EMF's

and Roundup (agent orange) destroying our gut microbiome. The alternative medicine usually dose not work...and is not covered by insurance. So go with big pharma...and come to a realization that things are only gonna get worse is all...methadone last stop.

Thanks everyone. This community is a blessing. I’m on 5mg methadone now plus neupro patch 3 mg and neutron 400 mg. It works but methadone really makes me very drowsy during the day. I’m afraid of this neupro and really afraid ai wont be able to get off it. I need a Doctor in nyc area that will listen to me. My current doc says it will be easy to get off the patch. I feel like hitting him in the side of the head with my 5 iron.

I think that RLS can be caused by nerve impingement. that is one of the main cause of RLS in pregnant women. in that instance, I think Chiropractors can help but if your rls is caused by other factors chiropractors aren't going to work. But it is definitely worth trying. and if your nerves have been in an impinged state for a long time they can develop lesions which are more perinate. They can heal, but they take a long long time. All that to say that you may not see an immediate improvement from chiropractic care.

I agree with you. Adjustments sometimes takes time to do it's magic!

Clearly everyone is different, but I can say that chiropractic helped me hugely years ago. I had RLS just horribly when my back was messed up badly from years of abuse- lifting, pulling, etc. It took a couple months to see the results, and RLS wasn't my reason for going in the first place. It was a nice side effect! But getting older, it's gotten worse over the years again, and it's the diet changes that are making the difference now. Very few carbs, no sugar. No one can make the blanket statement that chiropractic doesn't work. Everyone is different, and as RLSgirl says, it could take awhile to see results.

I am currently going to a chiropractor, 3 times a week, for the next year, to hopefully return my spine to 85% normal. I have nerve impingement in every major nerve that exits my spine. How did this happen? It probably started when I was 6 and was kicked in the face by a donkey. Plus somenasty wipeouts over the years, falling on the ice. Many things. I have gone to chiros most of my life. However......the key to all of it.....continuation and check ups. I didn't do that. I would go a couple times, figure I was good and stop going.

Nerve impingement causes dis-ease in the organs they serve. Nerves I believe are involved in RLS. I have had RLS since I was 8. I am nearly 50 now. I have never taken meds. I have studied. I am hoping I may have some good/great news that links to nerves. Along with the chiropractor, I have started a test. I am combining Celebrex( a strong anti-inflammatory for my Osteoarthritis) and a stress multi vitamin in the morning and an hour before bed I take 500mg magnesium, Valerian, and Passion Flower. I have had three night in a row free of RLS. The passion flower is supposed to be used 3 times a day, but I am only using at night due to it may cause drowsiness. I have had RLS still, when trying to read before bed, but after taking the mag, Val, and passion flower....it stopped.

So from my yrs of chiro experience, I believe that yes they can help, but they are not a quick fix. You have to put in the time to get relief.

I went to my Chiropractor a few months ago for an adjustment. He referred me to an associate of his in the same clinic who he said had success treating RLS with acupuncture. I went for several sessions but it did not help me at all.
