Stress and malaise

Hi

I have had RLS type symptoms for 20 years (now im 52) , have never had the sleep disturbance and didnt have a diagnosis till recently.

Early on I was told it was small nerve fibre neuropathy (I had damp feeling on my legs all the time like they were wet) , then sodium channelopathy/migraine aura and recently the last two plus RLS.

Have had 3 major flare ups in my life all around either stressful events or wrong medication (SSRI's) making things worse

Anyhow I eat well etc and dont abuse alcohol (cant even take this now) and have found over the last 10 years my health deteriorating all the time with lots of other issues coming to light , It seems I have a predisposition to stress and malaise with this condition.

Just wondered if the RLS/nerve issue is actually the reason for all my health issues and you guys are similar?

the reason I ask is Im off work with a flare up (no 3 in my life) and not feeling anywhere near well enough to go back and my work are asking to get a doctors report

Cheers

Hello again. I read with interest your post. I have had RLS all my life and am now 76. I have had lots of obscure health issues especially in the second half of my life. I am extremely sensitive to many medications. The GP practice which I went to for a long time was not very helpful in trying to get to the bottom of my troubles and eventually diagnosed me - very wrongly - with generalised anxiety syndrome. I told you I had suffered from onset of migraine with aura in my 60s which is unusual for that age. I had to travel to London and self refer to a Migraine Clinic there to get a diagnosis. They suggested 75 mg aspirin tablet every morning as they said the aura was probably brought on by "clumping of platelets" at some point in my head. This has worked so well - I had been getting perhaps up to 3 auras daily. My interest has been in your reference to channelopathy which I had never heard of before and when I read up on this it explains another of my issues. I have a weight problem and every time I tried to diet I would always get bad migraines. On reading about channelopathy this now makes sense to me. If I cut eating too much I think this is what caused migraines.

My feeling about myself is that the RLS/migraines/all the other odd symptoms from time to time are all related to the central nervous system. I have attended three different neurologists in the past (at my own expense because of long waiting times) in an attempt to get some help to no avail. The other thing I suffer is spinal stenosis with sciatica which has caused neuropathy in my left foot.

I am so sorry to hear of your condition and hope you can get some answers where I have failed. Certainly medications are not the answer for me. There are very few I can tolerate. Low grade depression has followed me throughout these years which is not surprising.

On a lighter note I have a son called Andrew and my pet name for him when he was little was Andyroo!!
