Can not sleep
Hi Barrylegs, are you on any treatment at the moment? There are a good variety of prescribed and non prescribed options, what all have you tried for the RLS and/or sleep?
I too am retired and that allows me the opportunity to sleep during the day whne the legs have been at me.
Keep in mind if you have been working nights for long your whole circadian rythym will be out of wack too.
There is a link on here recently to an article about RLS and sleep that Elisse posted:

Hi Raff, thanks for the post, problem with me I just cannot sit down for long and even lay down before my leg or arm starts, I just have to get up and move around, i am on Pramipexole at the moment have been on these for quite a long time, if I keep my mind active it carms down a bit, I can not get to sleep now!!! All the best.
Is sounds like Augmentations from the Pramipexole. Where the med which gave you relief turns against you and makes the RLS worse and thats sounds like you. What is your dose of the Pramipexole. ?
Hi Elisse, I am on 0.35mg only small but for a long time 15 years + all the best.
Hi,
You are definitely going through augmentation so please search on this site about it.
0.35mg isn't small dose so probably best to look at the other options. 0.088mg twice a day is the recommended dosage for pramipexole. BTW You have done very well out of it. (15 years)
Good luck.
Take care.
B.
Hi Barrylegs,
You may find this link of some help:
There are two neurotransmitters in particular Glutamate and GABA and the relationship between those impact on sleep can be quite dramatic.
Even if I am lucky enough to have my body quiet, often I cannot sleep anyway. I go to bed 'tired but wired' and my brain refuses to settle down. It can be very bloody frustrating. The research linked above mentions Gabapentin to reduce the Glutamate and aid sleep and it also works for RLS, might be a way to go, especially as it gets you away from the Pramipexole.
I'd like to back up Elisse and Bkc1777 and direct you towards augmentation - it doesn't have to be massive doses. A very simple test would be to slightly up your dose and if the RLS goes away I'd chalk it down to tolerance if it gets worse - you know where you are!
I haven't read the below research but it looks to be about what we are discussing:

Take care

It is such a feck of a condition its good to have a spot like this to get support.
take care and stay frosty!
I have had the very same problems--sleepless nights, RLS at night; augmentation during the day. I could not sit for long and I could not relax. I have discovered that when my RLS dosage is too high, I have one miserable night of worse RLS symptoms. My new med caregiver changed my 3 low dosage pills taken at different times to one pill per evening. I had three very bad nights before I figured it out. I cut the pill in half, took one an hour before bedtime, and then the other around 1:30 am. That worked. There are two other instances that throw me into a RLS frenzy night: drinking caffeine drinks at night and being sick. My med won't work then. If I am having augmentation during the day, a magnesium pill will fix that problem. Now, through my chiropractor, I have something else that is helping. He gave me a pair of VoxxLife Wellness socks. I was very skeptical that socks could help. I have worn them say and night and I have felt so much better. There is a LOT of information on VoxxLife Statis Socks on the Internet. I have been able to cut my RLS med in half. Check them out.
