Hereditary: Does anyone know if rls is... - Restless Legs Syn...
Hereditary
Hi, I'm 65 and I've had rls at least since high school. My mother had it and one of my daughters has it. There seems to be a hereditary component. I don't know about the rest of it.
My mother and brother had rls,so yes its hereditary.
There are two types of rls.
Primary is genetic - your forebears had it. Research into Parkinsons is isolating the particular genes responsible - this may have implications for rls.
Secondary is acquired - may be set of by medical triggers ( eg antihistamines) or food (eg high salt, alcohol etc) or major surgery especially on the back. This last may be a result of withdrawal symptoms from opiate painkillers.
Some people find a relationship between toileting and rls relief- maybe the dopamine released by satisfactory elimination is an answer. Raffs finds sex is good as well- but he would , wouldn't he! 😎
Raffs no NEVER heard him mention sex lol x
Yes it's hereditary. My Grandad had it and my Mum, me and my son have it too!
RLS may be because food sensitivities may be hereditary, and diets tend to be habit, or learned. This may be an area of study as a student project.
I'm the first and maybe only one in my family, both sides, who has it.
Yes my son has it and my symptoms worsen when I need the toilet, more so when needing a 'pee'
I can't say from any scientifically based assessment but as far as my genetics go...
My mum's mum had 3 sisters, not 1 of them alike in looks or nature but each one of them had a large pales freckle (passed off as a beauty mark in fashion!) in the middle of their right cheek! All 4 would randomly sprout a dark thick hair, that wouldn't be there before they slept but was stupidly long by the time they woke (I was convinced it was the familys little old wives tail no hair grows that quick!) and the all suffered, to different extents, from the nightly leg jitters. My favorite aunt had it bad, very few nights slept throughout her life and so she got older the attacks would hit randomly, even a few nasty times she was standing up and she lost the ability to control them.
My Mum and her sister were chalk and cheese, my Mum being 17 years younger and was always the more portly of the 2 no matter her dress size. They both have the mole, if pictures can be relied on I would say less than a 1mm variable in all 6 pix I've seen, and for years they were pulling me on about this amazing growing hair. Both sisters lived or is still living in my mums case with the now diagnosable RLS. My amazingly tall cousin, with her legs up to her arm pits and her classically shaped appearance (next to my average height and fuller figure) also has The Mole and legs that can do an Irish jig virtually in your sleep. Mine were always more crampy until my colon got a bit too friendly with my spine and off they went... But didn't stop the cramping! More to the point though and beyond belief my mole is there and in some phenomenal way that just isn't possible this thing can grow big and thick and dark within 8 hours to almost all 10mm long!
Bloody genetics eh x
Yes , it does seem to run in families, my dad and brother both have it ;O(
