What's the likelihood of one suffering from RLS being diagnosed eventually with Parkinson's?

From what I have been told and read RLS is not an indicator of Parkies as you age. They are related in their cause but one is not a predecessor of the other. I hope that's correct.

your reply seems correct to me as it is what my doctor told me

The medication (ropinerole) is actually the medication used for Parkinson's 😕

Some RLS sufferers are put on parkinson medication. My Dad was taking pramipraxil for years. I'm a nurse , I noticed that dad had problems starting and stopping movements. this is known as drug indused parkinsonism. I researched other rsl medication. his face is brighter and he walks properly now.

This is my medication and I swear by it and I was told by a doctor it was a form of Parkinson's or from a similar family

Yes that is correct .also oramipexole for parkinsons which ive used for years .sometimes im good with rls sometimes unbearable so as we dont kno why times are ok times are bad .

You will not develop Parkinsons because you have RLS. Both different conditions. It is known that people who have Parkinson's can developed RLS. Yes we take the same meds but at much lower doses. Parkinson's is because the brain cant make enough dopamine. We RLSers, have enough dopamine but it gets blocked and cant reach where it is supposed to.

I agree with elisse. I think some of the others who replied didn't quite get the question correctly.

My pramipexole 0.18mg tabs 3x a night some nights I need more was given to me some yrs back and I'm reliant on them or it'd be impossible to sleep when it starts usually I jump in the bath maybe twice if it lingers for hours on end if my meds don't kick in in time....I was told it's a member of the Parkinson's family how correct I don't know but I'm not going argue with a doctor lol .....I know anyone who has it severe I feel for them because my life is horrendous with it

totally agree with your view prampexole is my life saver, unless you have experienced the horrendous sensations of rls you wont know how desperately this medicine is needed

I am posting this for what it is worth 15 Feb 2017 it might help someone I have landed in the ER overnight plus umpteen tests for my heart since November. Awful symptoms like a very severe over caffeinated attack .a couple of weeks ago I finally wondered if it was anything related to my having every morning for breakfast a toasted bialy.(a type of bread roll)and eliminated them.Since which time my symptoms thank goodness cleared and added bonus my Very severe RLS.I came to the conclusion it was probably due to gluten.although have not had problems before .Age seems to produce unpleasant problems.I do hope this might be helpful to someone.as you all know anything that is of assistance is welcome.
