Hi Joyce- welcome.

Sounds like things are getting bad for you. Are you on any medications at the moment or have you changed medicines?

I certainly find that salt is a huge trigger for restless legs , as are raising agents- they will keep me up all night.

It's worth keeping a food diary and recording food (and meds) and any effects. It will surprise you after a few weeks how a pattern will appear.

Have a look at the two main rls sites- there is a lot of information in them .

RLSUK

RLSHELP.ORG

If you google them they will come up.

Good luck- and let us know how you get on.

thank you for the info. i`m on requpt. helps me sleep , thats about it. i eat salt because i have low blood pressure and it helps me not to get spots in front of my eyes, and cramps in my legs.

Check out augmentation ( from the Requip)

Sorry you are having problems. I have to ask why would you eat something with alot of salt..? Salt in large amounts is not good for anyone, Very bad for your health.

I would see your doctor about your low blood pressure and your cramps. Magnesium can be good for cramps much better than high levels of salt. Just dont let your doctor let you take quinine for leg cramps, as quinine has health issues, can be bad for your heart.

I have found that for me and a few others there is definitely a relationship between food and restless legs. Instead of trying to identify the foods that are bad for you by recording your foods I suggest you adopt a scientific approach and try the Monash University FODMAP diet. Search it on the web and you will see a lot of information. There is also mis-information so I suggest you stay with the recognised centres of knowledge. In austalia that's monash and in a few other places its universities and major hospitals.

To make the diet as easy as possible try to find a GP and a dietician who have experience with the diet and can work with you. The FODMAP is cheaper than medicines and seems to be more permanent BUT you have to be strict with yourself or you might find the RLS returns for a few days.

Note that its not a matter of eating "Good food" Its a matter of determining if your body reacts badly to certain foods so you can avoid them. Foods that might be causing your problem include milk, apples, apricots wheat and other things that are healthy but not suitable for you.

It apparently only works for 75% of people but that is a pretty good chance of relief.

It doesn't actually cure you but it tells you what foods you have to avoid.

It has to be worth a 12 week trial just to see if it helps.

Not what you're looking for?
