RlS genes.

Iv`e read quite a bit about how rls can be hereditary, but the thing that puzzles me is, what purpose would these genes have in nature? I just don`t see what use rls is in evolution.

Evolution is about genetic variety. In any population there may occur thousands of mutations at any time. Some of these may confer an advantage to their owner by which that owner will prosper and breed successfully. Many mutations will be of no benefit or even a hindrance. Their owners will not prosper and may even die.

It only needs one successful mutation to create evolution. Thousands of mutations either die out or just simmer along in the background waiting for their chance to succeed.

RLS gene is just simmering along. Who knows what, if any, benefit it will confer?

Human DNA is choc full of useless strings of genes that seem to have no function whatsoever.

Maybe the RLS gene originally woke up the caveman in time to throw another log on the fire to keep that fierce hungry sabretooth tiger away.. and so my great....... great grandmammy lived to have my grandpappy ... and so on.

Hmmm, i quite like your idea of having RLS was to wake the caveman up to throw another log on the fire to stay alive. After all we wouldnt be here would we if the sabretoothed tiger had eaten all mankind and wiped us out.

What they would have in nature, i dont have a clue, what i DO know is RLS has been passed down and is there to drive us all loopy. !!
