Oh dear that sounds awful, back pain and RLS. We are all sufferers in differing forms. Sorry, I don't know about the link between bad backs and RLS, but hopefully someone on here will.

13 kids is a huge responsibility and with a bad back, and I have one, that is a huge and wonderful , but HARD job that you have. I have read some studies about the relation to spinal fluid and how things are transmitted to our brain receptors thru the spinal fluid. I broke my back when I was 14, have had 4 back surgeries and 3 neck surgeries, so I can relate to the issues, not the kids, but I can with the back. Much more studying needs to be done, which means more money is needed. You have all of my sympathy. I know what Tegretol is, not sure what Murelax is, but I am in the USA. Do you mean MIralax? That is a laxative that I use. Tegretol does not sound like it is doing the trick for you at all with the RLS. There are many other meds to try that are more tailored to RLS, and can you tell us what you have tried so far if anything else?

Back surgery and resultant RLS is well  documented.

I've  had that and am now on oxycontin 10 at night which controls pain and RLS. I have  oxynorm 5  for the rest of the day as needed. Usually only take it after midday  to get me through to evening.

So far  so good after a month.

Was on Pramixepole  before that.

Just get some itching with the opiate.

Good luck.

I feel for you :(.. I also have had several back surgeries and also have genetically passed down RLS. I'm a medically grounded airline captain because of this. I've been having severe problems since 07. Because it affected my career so negatively, I've worked with some of the worlds best RLS doctors in the US. I've tried over 200 different medications. In 07, the front line medication was Requip or Meripex. I started with a low dosage of Requip which made me sick but did take care of the RLS. Over a few months I found that I had to increase the dosage and began taking Requip XL and Requip single dosage at bedtime. The problem is that Requip and Meripex type drugs eventually cause augmentation or they fry the dopamine receptors. My doctor then added an opiod. After about 2 years, I felt I was dying. A young doctor from John Hopkins asked if I had used methadone. At that time I had used near a hundred different compounds that individuals had reported helping their RLS. This anecdotal evidence didn't pan out to be correct for my issues. The methadone at 5mg worked within 30 min of taking. Ive used methadone since. I've gained about 30lbs of weight and use a slimly higher dosage 10 mg now. Methadone has been Godsend for me. I don't feel a high or impaired in any way. Methadone does dry out my mouth and cause constipation. I have to take water to bed and also take fiber for the constipation. I'm getting ready to try vaporized marijuana. If it works, I may consider leaving methadone because it does create problems with the endocrine system with long term use.
