needing advice about my restless legs.Can I take magnesium along with gabapentin.

Hi snowy1 as far as I know they can help Some people ,and a lot of others take magnesium as well as there meds also some take iron

I've just started on pramopexole ,,and I've been discussing on here which magnesium to take as I want to try them to magnesium L  Threonate they say is a good one to try

Yes, there are no interactions with magnesium with MOST meds. usually not an issue, as always, ask your doctor.

Hi- magnesium does have issues when taken with Gabapentin /Neurontin.  Basically, they bind together to reduce the efficacy of  both by roughly a quarter - 25%. This is obviously important if you are on a critical dose of gabapentin.  Two options-

 1-up your gabapentin by 25%  or

 2- take your magnesium 2-3 hrs separate from the gabapentin. 

Magnesium is useful to take at the same time as the gabapentin if you are trying to cope with withdrawal of gabapentin - hopefully you are not at that stage yet.

Separately - if you have dodgy kidneys, then taking magnesium can be harmful- you should get medical advice.

Magnesium is very useful as a laxative aid when on opioids - and can also help with sleep.
