hey everybody the neurologist put me on Gabapentin 2 wks. ago and iam getting a little more sleep now. it's 11:00 pm here in the states right now and my left leg is coming apart and both feet are smoking. I took a oxycodone 10 minutes ago and it's beginning to taper off a little. 2 wks. ago on a Thursday I had the worst couple of hrs. I've ever had with rls. I was coming apart all over and my feet were on fire. I tried running and anything else I could think of and finally about 2 hrs. later the coming apart ceased but the burning feet lasted a lot longer. I hope the new med. continues to help the sleep and slow down the rls. almost time for Santa, MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL

I also suffer terribly with RLS and started taking Horizant about a month ago. I am not sure if it is helping or not as I was on Mirapex for about 15 years and was experiencing rls symptoms as early as 11:00 in the morning. Sitting in church had become a real problem. I had to go off Mirapex as it was creating a rebound effect. I also take oxycodone and find that if I take it before the symptoms start it works so much better. I take 5 mg. but cut it into and start taking it around 5 or 6 PM. I then take another one around 9 and then the last one around 10 or 10:30 PM.. these are all half pills. So I usually end up taking 1 and 1/2 5 mg. pills a night. When I was going off the Mirapex I was up to two oxycodone a night. I wish they could come up with a cure for this stuff. It absolutely affects my whole life. When I tell people I have restless legs I get this blank stare. Only those who have a relative with rls or suffer themselves know what I am talking about. Merry Christmas to you also. Hope your rls get better.
Great to hear olblue! Just so you know there is also Pregablin(Lyrica) in the same drug family as Gabapentin and most find it even better but it is more expensive!
thanks babs x i may have spoken to soon. i was awake all nite long rls all over. it is 12:28 pm. and my feet are in an awful condition. can't get rid of the tingling and burning. hope you are doing better than iam. oldblue
Hi oldblue, I tried Gabapentin and it worked a little but I couldn't take the weight gain, 25 lbs in a month and a half. I now take TRAMADOL which works wonders for me, been on it for 5 1/2 yrs with no problems or side effects. I take 50 mg st 5:30 pm even though I don't have any symptoms at that time, and another 50 mg tab st 11:30 pm before I go to sleep. I don't have any pain from RLS, but a little while ago someone posted about their daughter with some other serious problem that caused pain and she recommended to all of us here with pain to try oil of magnesium. She swore by it because she tried it on her legs for the RLS and it gave her relief. So, I ordered it on Amazon and to my surprise it DID work, I did take my meds but although I was medicated every now and then I get the RLS tingling for no reason. Apparently magnesium is good for pain, so why don't you give it a try, NOT in pill form, you have to use the spray, it gives the problem area a warm relief. The product is called MAGNESIUM OIL GOODNIGHT PURE MINERAL OIL.. It's a transdermal oil spray and it AIDS you to get restfully sleep. The brand I got is by Better You. Do give it a try and post back with results. It took a little long to arrive since it's a product from the UK. I hope it works if you decide to get it. Happy new year. Johanna
