Gabapentin side-effects

I have just been prescribed Gabapentin for back pain and RLS. I am worried about the side effects, especially the weight gain, has anyone had success with this drug?

Gabapentin is known to cause weight gain. What other side effects are you worried about. Alot of people have good success taking it for RLS. What dose have you been prescribed..?

Hi Elisse, the dose is 100mg x 3 times a day. There seems to be a lot of side effects.

Hi nparks, 300mg is quite a low dose. All meds can give side effects and they have to list them just so people can be aware. But it doesnt mean everyone will get those side effects.

Nparks, Welcome! What kind of side effects are you having with Gabepentin aside from weight gain? I have been on Gabepentin for the past year (900mg per day, which is still at the lowish end) and yes, I've battle weight gain, but this medication has literally been a lifesaver for me. I was on a dopamine agonist for 9 years and the side effects were beyond what most people could imagine. If Gabepentin works for you and you can handle the side effects, try to stick with it as its one of the more benign medications available for RLS.

Why 100mg 3x day? Do u have RLS during the day while active. 300 mg at bedtime only is usual minimum dosage. Works for me. Side effects not too bad after a few weeks. Sometimes does not work and need 300 mg at dinner and 300 at bed time.
