It drives me mad too. I woke at 5am this morning twitching. It's now 10am and I'm desperate for a rest - but I know that's not going to happen. I just have to keep moving.

It's a wicked illness. I'm also hoping to get some information from fellow sufferers.

Hi.....great name!!!! Ha ha

There are a few drugs that work extremely well but none as well as One called

Mirapex another name for it is pramapexole. Just beware if your personality leans toward OCD or a person that could become addicted easily. One of the problems is obsessive gambling. However if you are aware before hand of this find a thing take on a close friend, family member etc to manage your finances.

Currently I am involved in class action suit due to the drug and gambling. Tons of info on the net about it. But I can tell you it is the best out there in my opinion for RLS.

That's the main reason I won't touch those drugs!

the dragon... I take Pramapexole. I do not have the urge to gamble

or be a sex addict as it clearly states on the packaging.

It is not a mind altering drug. I am still 100% me.

If you are suffering badly from RLS, it might help you. =))

I can honestly say that my RLS is a lot worse without the drug

and in missing even one nights dose sends my legs into

a frenzy. The pills wont start working until 2 hours after dosing.

I carry 4 Pramapexole with me in my purse at all times so I won't

stay out too late and then run into trouble. I take them at 6pm

7 days a week.

I can't blame you for fearing the drugs. I heard horror stories

as well. I just choose not to be in total control of my finances.

I turned that over to my hubby.

I never was and I still am not a big spender. My husband asks

me when I want to go shopping and I usually don't want to go.

Yikes, i take pramipexole, and all i have as side effect is a little weight gain

Hi I too take pramipexole and had the weight gain unfortunately but no gambling. I do like sewing and have something of a department store of fabric going on in my spare room but can't blame the drug for that as it was like that before I started. I also have to take my meds about two hours before I want them to work even though my doctor told me otherwise and I carry spares around with me.

My sister rang me the other night and said "I've had irritable legs like you". It made me laugh anyway. My husband said does she get restless bowel syndrome too! On a serious note she has just had a hip replacement so you can imagine what it must be like not being able to walk about much to relieve the hebbie jebbies.

in reply tojigglylegs

Jigglylegs. I had 5 same knee replacements. I had no knee for

12 weeks to let it heal up. I had a spacer put in.

Fortunately, I had pain killers (morphine) for part of the recovery

(a large amount) so my legs were still as could be and that's really

how I discovered what RLS was all about. I suffered so hard for

so long...and finally told my doctor that the pain meds took care

of my "running, hyper active legs" and luckily was told by that

doctor that it's RLS.

Hi All, thanks for the welcome and advice =) to be fair mines not too desperate, painfull and anoying definitely but usually sets in late afternoon and gets worse towards bed time, I have a damaged spine with nerve issues so when I do get layed down if the RSL is happening to be honest I don't notice because my back forces me to move constantly, tiredness is a massive problem but I'm not keen on drugs as already take tons of painkillers and antiflams, if anyone knows of more natural rems I'd be really greatful.

About the name thing lol, honestly totally ok with being 'dog' for short, cracks me up I didn't think about it when I picked it so its all good =) x

I have heard that RLS can be caused by low iron. Personally from research I have done it seems to be an imbalance in the dopamine levels in the front lobule of the brain. The reason mirapex causes gambling is because the area of the brain that holds dopamine is the area that creates risk and reward in humans.

I have heard and tried(but didn't help me) acupuncture. It actually made my legs start jumping but I know people who say it works for them. I have also heard yoga can help. Some also say calcium helps!

I have had stage 3 cancer, double mastectomies, 2 bowel resectionings, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy and I would rather have all of them then suffer with severe RLS. It is a nightmare disease that so many people make jokes about.

Thanks Ruby lane so sorry to read what your going through :( I have episodes of anemia so the iron thing may well be part of the cause for me so I 'll get back on the supliments, thanks for pointing out the link :) we're big milk drinkers so no supliments needed there. Take care and wish you well with your treatments x

have you had a ferretin levels blood test done Dog, its different than an ordinary iron test, it show how much iron get into your brain really, your level should be around 50-70 if you have rls, may be an idea to ask you doctor if you can get it checked

You should always check with your doctor before taking any iron pills. Toooo much iron can give serious health issues. As Tallula has said its your ferritin level that needs checking, ferritin is how your iron is stored.

Cheers for this info, I've never had any tests relating to rls, I haven't even told my Doctor because I've so many other things going on with my my back I feel too much of a pest to say btw can you do anything about my jumping legs? I don't think theres enough understanding or sympathy for rls to make it worth it, hell even with clear mri evidence of the damage in my back I'm still viewed as a time waster so what chance has my rls? Thats part of the reason I'd like natural remidys so don't worry about overdosing on iron, I'm just upping my intake of kale and spinnage to top it up, if its not getting to my brain I'll only know by things not improving xxx
