If you are a complete cripple you should be able to. I have Raynauds/Scleroderma/Polymiositis and was nearly crippled before I got medication but was determined not to be a cripple and I walked myself fit over a year because I wanted to be able to travel and carry on working. I know it is terrible to be in pain, but the government now does not give disability money out like they used to. I couldn't work for a year but received Employment and Support Allowance, you should definitely get this for a while.

If you really are incapacitated then you should apply and see what happens. You need money to live and these benefits are rights not a favour from the benefits department. The Citizens Advice Bureau will be able to give advice if you want to find out before contacting the benefits office because they are not always sympathetic.

Good luck.

Hi Irene55, I have Raynauds/Scleroderma/Polymiositis as well and will be very happy if I can speak with you - to discuss with you just everything - the medicine you take, how you manage your life

my email is p.syarova@gmail.com - you can write me, if you don't mind

Thank you

NOT sure everything has changed and if you live in a house with someone working you may not get anything . Its best to apply for the benfit and see from there

You can claim if the effects of these symptoms mean you are unable to carry out your activities of daily living, of very limited mobility and needing help with your care needs. Your doctor would be asked for a report of your illness and treatment.

I understand disability claims are very difficult and that you have to literally be on your last legs to succeed but good luck and best wishes for the future.

Both my bf and son are on disability. My son is on SSI for children and currently gets the full US federal amount which is $721 a month and my bf is on SSDI which goes by how much he has but into the system from working which isn't mucj because he filed when he was 23. He gets $541 a month. My brother who is on disability gets somewhere over $1000 a month even though he has only worked a small handfull of jobs his entire life only because our father is over age 65 and has claimed his SSI retirement. Its hard to know how much you will get depending on where you live, your age (current and when you became disabled), your disability, and how much you have paid into the system from working earlier in your life.

I am over 70 and recently realised that over the last 6 months I had needed more and more help. I have systemic sclerosis and recently diagnosed with lung cancer. I downloaded the forms from the site, filled them in and got my husband to fill in his section and sent them

off. 5weeks later the money was in the bank. I did the same for the blue badge(their response was even quicker) and conjestion charge. Its a matter of knowing when you need help and following the guidelines.
