Day 3 / tough going

On day 3 today, finding it really hard, just can't stop eating, does anyone else go through this. This is not my first time giving up, I have stopped smoking many times in the past. But this time I really hope it's forever.

Hi Gillian , Welcome to our friendly community. Lots of members eat instead of smoking. The trick is to try putting healthy nibbles around. Nuts, fruit, the odd cereal bar. plus drink plenty of water. May I ask are you using any form of nicotine replacement. Sometimes this can help. Stay with us we will do our best to help you stop. :) :)

I will bob your name on our wall of winners and your quit date. We can then award you badges as you reach each milestone of your quit journey. :)

Thanks for replying to me. I have never used a forum before, but thought it would help me to stay smoke free. I am doing this cold turkey, I do find reading through the posts does help.

Hiya Gillian and welcome to quit support :)

Congratulations on 3 days quit cold turkey :)

The nicotine is going out of your body and hang in there coz you are doing really well :)

I found oranges great to keep peeled and in the fridge for the munchies :)

This site is great to take your mind of things and take one day at a time and you will get there :)

Chewing gum is another thing to help but I think we all eat more at the start of a quit, so don't worry to much and keep busy, good luck :) x

Hi there Gillian,

You're doing great well done :)

I'm no expert, far from it, but reading other posts on this site apparently you will gain more energy once you quit & therefore burn more calories :) , dunno how long that takes but what I'm trying to say is don't worry about the food so much, giving up smoking is much more important for your health, as Jilly says just try & go for the healthier snack options :)

Right behind ya gal (I hope) ;)

Hi Gillian :) and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit community :) :)

Rite your on day 3 of your quit and finding it hard :( for some reason, a lot of us find days 1 and 2 quite easy, but then, days 3 and 4 are hell :( :( I think this is due to not just getting rid of nicotine from our bodies, but also those other 4.000 toxins that come with it :o

The lovely Girls have given you lots of great advice already :) :) and i am with then 100% lets get you smokefree first, then we can deal with the munching bit eh :o :) :)

Drinking plenty of water helps tremendously, not only for the cravings but for the snacking too, as it seems to tell your brain that your tummy is full :o :)

Exercise also helps alot :) soooo, try to get out and about :) go for a brisk walk with your dog, cat, hamster :o whatever you've got :D :D and get some fresh air down them lungs of your's :) :) and give them a helping hand to clean them selves out :) :)

Good luck Gill and hope you stay with us gal :)

Pete :) xx

for me day 3 & 4 were the hardest and they have been so far. This forum is such a big help and I am glad you have reached out for help. I have so far stayed cold turkey, 3 wks. today, but if you need help do not hesitate to get it for yourself. Good luck, breathe deep and stay focused, we're here for you.

Thanks everyone for all your messages. It really does help. I will try out your tips and hopefully some will help.

Hi Gillian, I'm a Newbee aswell and on day 6 today, day 3 and 4 was really hard for me also, I made a massive chicken stew and grazed on it all day for on of the days plus about 10 little oranges lol, don't worry it's all normal, did help with my constipation which I've developed since quitting aswell! It's all normal and in feeling your pain too but it's worth it by talking to everyone on this great site helps tenfold, just keep going and just think you are doing brilliantly and you are getting thru the worst before you feel so much better, keep in touch xx
