Mum was diagnosed with PSP in late 2023 and has gone downhill since then. She is now in a care home and for the last few months has had an increasing number of incidents where she screams and shouts. Often she doesn't remember doing it, is unable to explain the problem or what she wants and more recently it's for unreasonable requests (ie linked to confusion over time of day, food etc). This is causing Mum stress and anxiety daily. Unfortunately, professionals seldom see the full extent of this and we are struggling to get an opinion as to whether it is part of PSP or linked to another emerging problem. Has anyone experienced the same or can you offer any advice?
Many thanks.

The care home has a duty of care to look after your mom. I would agree if she's on any medication or get tested for a UTI. She may be in pain or needs more time to communicate her feelings. You could even ask the PSP charity to send someone to the care home to give them training on PSP.
My mother is also in a care home and often shouts and screams, she will deny that she had been shouting or will justify it as she says that the carers don't answer the bell. I am aware the she is displaying signs of cognitive decline and is immobile and chair bound but I struggle with her behaviour. She has a diagnoses of PSP and we are waiting for a neurologic appointment, where I hope they can tell me at what stage she is.
