My husband was diagnosed with PSP almost 2 years ago. On Saturday evening he collapsed and was admitted to hospital with Aspiration Pneumonia. A couple of weeks ago the parkinsons nurse had suggested beginning the process of applying for CHC and last week a district nurse arrived on the doorstep unannounced to do this. Unfortunately she arrived at the same time as the carer who showers Peter so we re-scheduled and she's due back this Friday. Should I perhaps ask for the process to be fast tracked whilst he is in hospital? I'm very unsure of the process and any help or suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you, Tricia

Fast track CHC?
Yes ! Say you want him home but need support. They arranged it all for me. xx
Hi. If he is in hospital then they will be the best people to apply for fast track and it is usually more successful. Good luck to you both. AliBee
Make sure you get photocopies of the Ward Assessments and Care Plan for your husband. Nurses looking after a patient are straight about their frailties and needs. CHC assessors often seem less so.
Thank you very much for your replies. Unfortunately Peter, my lovely husband, had a heart attack in hospital today and passed away.
Hi, there should be a complex needs discharge team within your hospital who can refer you to the appropriate agency, fast tracking funding generally is for six weeks and only for end of life. Full CHC funding is done by their own assessors , I would advise consulting social services as they can be very helpful in the complicated assessment process. They love evidence so gather as many bits of paper as you can!
