Good morning it’s me again. Rick has been getting up at night lately. He got up saying the kids fell out of bed, then this morning he fell getting out of his chair when he should have been in bed. I ask why he was in the chair and he said because I can.
I went away for the weekend and he told my daughter that I was just outside. Then he tells his mom that someone was in the house and no one was here except her and him. Last night he was going into the kitchen to cut the stove off and it wasn’t on. Is this another phase? Thanks for the help.
Hi. The situation sounds very challenging. I haven't any experience of what you are going through as my mum's PSP symptoms are different to what you describe. I have read other posts where similar descriptions are a result of urine infections but my suggestion is to see the GP or get advice from the helpline here. Thinking of you and hope things improve for you both swiftly.
Hallucinating and delusions are not unusual with PSP. They may pass. Let the doctor know he is having them.
Have you considered he might have a low grade UTI or be brewing one? I found that Chris sometimes showed confused symptoms when he was going down with one.
It's worth checking for an UTI but this was definitely something Mum suffered with, she'd ask the carer to take me to school, if we went shopping she would want to buy food which she wouldn't eat, then when we got back she wanted to cook the children's tea, if we went out she'd ask if Dad (died 8 yrs previously) was coming, would I take my brother (died 13 years previously) for a haircut, buy him new pyjamas etc etc,. Everything else about the day would be completely "normal" & sane, just this one thing & I found the best answer was to go along with it the best I could, as you couldn't reason with her.
It was a bit like her age, she got stuck at 82, when asked it was always 82. However if you got her to work out how many years there were between when she was born & now, she'd get the answer right, if you asked her how old I was & how old she was when she had me, she could add the 2 numbers together correctly, then she would shake her head & say it couldn't be right because she was 82.
It was so confusing for her, to argue the point she got stubborn & we both got upset, so it was one of those things to try & accept & try & have a giggle with someone else about it later.
Hi, my husband would try to get out of his chair or bed even though he could no longer walk. The unfortunate thing is the brain still thinks they can get up and go. Thankfully our Occupational Therapist provided alarm mats which activated as soon as he put his foot on them. Saved him from many a fall.
As for the confusion I agree with others who have posted, it maybe due to a UTI.
