Getting Medical Equipment in the USA

Lately I've been seeing posts where people are struggling to find and/or afford equipment.

Dad was fortunate in a sense he was a veteran and got into the VA home based care program that provided just about anything you can think of.

For those of you not going through the VA there are organzations around the country that loans equipment, usually no charge. To find one search for medical equipment loaning in your area.

Another source is hospice. Once they are involved they usually bring in whatever equipment they deem necessary for the duration of their service. Hospice doesn't have to wait till end of life. Normally the doctor will state there is no chance of improvement and patient will steadily progress.

Good Luck,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Thank you for posting. Sometimes these websites are difficult to locate. I’ve had success with both donating and borrowing equipment from a place called Foundation Assisting Seniors. The “senior” requirement is a little flexible (I think?). They loaned us a bedrail and a chair for the shower. They also fit us with a better wheelchair than the one that we had. A very nice place.

I mentioned this info on a neighborhood website but didn’t think of it for this forum. Nicely done, thank you!

Try searching for Loan Closet medical equipment . They are scattered across the US. There are others but usually local to a region.
