Study says Liver problems associated with causing Alzheimers. Could this also pertain to PSP?

yes don't know how that happened. seems to be ok this time. We are plugging along. hubby is slow progression and although I see I slight decline I keep waiting for the "next shoe to drop" !!!!! Hope Liz is keeping comfortable. xx

Yes, Liz was OK today. I had her home this afternoon and we cuddled up on the sofa and watched Da Vic's Demons. She can follow the plot quite easily.
She is so warm and loving when she is not in a bad space. Which makes it easier for me to be warm and loving back.
So a lovely day here.

It's really helpful to hear these "little things" that are good. For those of us looking at PSP/CBD from the starting end of things, when you study up, it seems all the news is only about the losses and horror. And hearing about these little things, and how you are making use of the time that you have is very encouraging. It's not like you'd go make a post saying that you watching tv together and enjoyed it, but it's wonderful, and sometimes just what others need to hear.

Yes, I manage to get Liz back from the nursing home twice a week. So these are very special times when I can make them work. She loves to see her garden, home and moggie.
It's all about little things that bring some joy.

Daffodil that seems really interesting. I wonder what can be done to kick start the liver? Is it just down to diet do you think?

Cholesterol is also essential for your brain, which contains about 25 percent of the cholesterol in your body. It is critical for synapse formation, i.e. the connections between your neurons, which allow you to think, learn new things, and form memories. So perhaps it's not surprising that memory loss is widely reported in association with statin use.
Further, remember that statins reduce ketone production. Ketone bodies are used as fuel by your brain, and they have also demonstrated the capacity to protect against neuronal disease, seizures, and age-related brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Parkinson's. Researchers from Penn State College of Medicine even found statins were associated with an increased Parkinson's risk.16
High total cholesterol and LDL were also associated with a lower risk of Parkinson's disease. The study concluded, "Statin use may be associated with a higher PD [Parkinson's disease] risk, whereas higher total cholesterol may be associated with lower risk."
How on earth do we ever reconcile all these studies into a plan for how to live?? Too late for my and many's loved ones but we have to be concerned about ourselves keeping healthy too....yikes!

Daffodil I have had two blood tests for my liver recently. The doctor went through various things...did I drink? Thinks I am drinking on the quiet. 😂.
He decided it might be some medication I am on but in the course of talking to me mentioned that Statins can cause this. I am not on them so it isn't those. Oddly was thinking of asking for them but now changed my mind.
Might find out next week what is causing it! 2 weeks wait for a doctor to talk to me on the telephone! Can you believe it? We don't know what we are meant to do anymore?

Let us know when/what you find out. My Doc has been wanting me to go on statins for slightly elevated cholesterol levels for a while but I have been resisting. Weird , my hubby who has psp has been on statins for years and has held good levels however he had triple bypass 4 years ago. When I questioned how he could have such good levels and still have blockage the docs said "oh not just cholesterol leads to that inflammation etc". !!!

I was asked by my doctor to go on them 20 years ago!! My cholesterol was higher than they liked but I thought it really wasn't that high and said no. I have a friend who went on them a few months ago but she has come off them. She just said she wasn't happy being on them! Never said why but she really felt she was being pressurised I think.
G was on them and I did an audit of what medication he was on and their side effects and discovered the particular kind of statin he was on should not be taken after 70!! So he asked to come off them. They never suggested an alternative. Makes you wonder?

i read everything but nothing , they said coconut oil i try anything they told me i take but nothing. good luck
For what it's worth, my husband was on statins in the past and was taken off when he had problems with them. And he still has weird liver numbers.
