I noticed mum loosing blood this morning whilst helping her at the toilet. Has anyone else had any experience of this or could it be a totally different matter?

Hi Sarah, don't know a lot about PSP but this does not sound like it would occur because of neurodegeneration.

Get a GP to check it out, just to be on safe side!

How old is your mother? If she is well through menopause, you should contact her doctor. Random bleeding is not at all unusual if she is still in perimenopause but could be a sign of something significant otherwise. As is often said here, PSP doesn't explain every symptom and having it doesn't make a person immune from the other ills a person is susceptible to. Whether she is well enough to make an examination feasible and not in itself a problem is a question for you both, and her doctor.

PSP would not, as far as I know or can imagine, be a cause of vaginal bleeding, but urinary infections and constipation are very common with PSP and so blood may appear in urine and if there is straining at stool. The patient's inability to feel pain or to accurately identify a source of discomfort complicates all of this, of course.

Please let us know how you and your mother get on. Love and peace, ec

My mum has CBD and has had similar issues. They weren’t directly related to the condition though. As she drunk less because of her swallow she begun to get regular urine infections that lead to her bleeding from her vagina. It became so serious she had to be hospitalised 3 times, so get it checked out to avoid.

Thanks for your support everyone. I spoke to the Drs yesterday. They got her straight in and have referred to the hospital. We should hear something in the next two weeks so will update when I have more news. Thanks again for your support x
