I don't know if exercise has ever helped with S's balance, but it has kept him strong, can still weight bear after nearly a year in a wheelchair. Plus he enjoys it. Always lead a life full of running, climbing and playing squash, now it's very subdued, but I feel very necessary for his mental well being as well as physical. S did go to classes specially for people with Parkinson's, now just has a personal trainer come to house, twice a week.

Lots of love

With my mother in law we have a stationary bicycle in the family room that she uses, she is 79 years old. She used everymorning for about 10 min and was walking with assistance, in the past 2 months however the walking has stopped and she has lost a lot of her balance so she can no longer use the bike. We did find that until she was able to, the excercise was helping her with movement and mobility...

Yes, it helped my guy a lot, but did not eliminate the instability. Keeping him less stiff gives him more ability to shift his weight, to lift his feet so he doesn't trip and so on. Psp doesn't let up, but I believe exercise has lots of benefits, as Heady says, that can fend off some of the effects and maybe slow the decline. Best to you, Easterncedar

Exercise helps my husband be more mobile. Don;t think it helps balance.

Do all you can do. We just bought an exercise chair and Joe goes to P/T twice a week., we joined a local club to go in the coming winter months. Don't neglect your ears. We just got hearing aids to help him communicate more as his speech has weakened the past year. And again: B12 test is vital! That is what started him on this journey! We discovered in 2014 that he has had pernicious anemia for years that ate away at his brain. Now gets a shot every 2 weeks and 5,000 sublingual B12 pill daily.

God Bless all and our beautiful America!

May God still bless us indeed ....Wow that's devastating on the B12......Bruce doesn't get enough B either,,,more because he lives in a cave...(shades on windows closed due to light sensitivity) must supplement ...no shots though....does it make him more energetic....talk better eat better , after the shot?

Are you using the methylated form of B12 (methylcobalamin)? This is the form that gets much better in the brain than the basic one for sale everywhere. My wife takes it every day as well as Co-enzyme Q10 which helps also in the oxygenation of the brain via the mithocondries. And she started this week the astragalus extract recommended by Christine to help with her flowing nose

Yes! Also take the Q10 and fish oil. Thanks for the tip about the extract 😍

Always...I'm standing on my head as I type this!

hahaha

Seriously

It does . The national council of Parkinsons Disease (?) says it has slowed and even improved their malady. When you force the brain to constantly reestablish it's core of balance , you are helping it to do this throughout the day.

I take my husband to the gym twice a week. I must say PSP has had it's way in that when we first signed up, he walked in; then with his walker; next the wheelchair , but walked from machine to machine; now straight up wheel chair. That was all since 2014(?) but we are still doing it ....well I'm making him but, it's all he does...

Go ahead and exercise , unless it's dangerous (free weights, that's the first thing we had to stop!) It's good for you, gets your endorphins goin....

May your squats only produce stronger quads, bum, and inner core (it does a few other good things ;) google it)

Exercise in all and any capacity helps ..With assistance my wife still is able to walk ...she has a brace for turned out foot ...we walk every day ..rain or shine.. cold, mild or hot...It definitely keeps her less stiff, gives her a better appetite, and helps her sleep at night . Her fatigue and walking speed have cut our walks short but we still do about a half mile (slowly ) about 40 mins ...but it also provides some cardio benes as well.We will do it til we can't! anything is better than nothing as long as the danger is minimal ...ie a fall or passing out....she eats good ...always a shake for breakfast ...fresh fruit ,whey protein and 1/2 and 1/2 .Water is tricky at this pt. seems the thinner the worse to get down ....good luck to all...jeff
