My wife has PSP and we were wondering if there are respite places in Norfolk that specialise in PSP so as I can get things done in the home

Hi Barry, I don't know where in Norfolk you are but my husband stayed at All Hallows' Nursing Home at Bungay, Suffolk. Bungay is on the Suffolk/ Norfolk border. We live in Kent but our son lives in Bungay. His house is not suitable for my husband to stay in but we took him out every day as we could get him into the house. They don't specialise in PSP but had looked after people with it before my husband. He was looked after ok but my husband didn't like being away from me and cried every time I took him back but I think he would do that anywhere. I hope you find somewhere so you can do the things you need to do.

Hi Barry -

Try the Iceni Care Home (run by the Zest Group) at Swaffham - near Waitrose!

The Manager is James Eley, a registered mental health nurse/manager, plucked out of semi-retirement. The unit is divided into two floors, dementia etc on ground floor and neuro etc on the upper floor.

They were very good with Tony. He first started going there weekly (couldn't access the bathroom here, so he went there for a bath and lunch - not much else really as he slept a lot of the time anyway). He spent from Feb. to Dec. 2012 there once he came out of the QE at King's Lynn (chest infection) - originally for palliative care, but the staff already had a good idea of his needs.

Could be quite expensive, but Tony did qualify for Continuing Care so I never had the bill.

Let me know if you need any more details and I'll have them ready.

Mo (Downham Market - where are you?)

Hello Barry -

Address for Iceni House Care Home -

Jack Boddy Way, Swaffham, Norfolk, PE37 7HJ Tel: 01760 720330

Tel: 01760 720330.

As you get to the roundabout for Waitrose on the right, Eco straight on, turn left -

Plowright Surgery on corner, Iceni is next building.

email: icenimanager@zestcarehomes.co.uk

Tony was there from end-Jan 2012 until he passed away in the December. I used to go in every day (mainly to help with the feeding - as you know it can take some time!) and was made to feel "part of the team". If they have a spare room for you to look at I think you will be pleasantly surprised. New building, all rooms en-suite, dining rooms, communal lounge or stay in your own room if you choose. Food OK and pureed etc to suit.

Let me know how you get on.

Mo
