Hey Mr. Jones - I do admire how you keep picking yourself up. Mr. C is really stalwart that way, too. You guys are heroes. Me, I've been moaning for the last month since a fall put my left arm out of commission - legs are still serviceable, though! I have to be careful to keep the other arm available to help Mr. C, cause when he starts to go over I tend to throw out whatever hand is closer, and I've had a couple of setbacks that way - and have yelped a bit, I'm embarrassed to admit. When, like you, Mr. C fell in the grocery store the manager was pretty worried that he was going to sue, and we had a Very Nice letter from the central office trying to forestall any legal action. It's too bad they have to think that way. (Who can we sue for this whole psp thing?) Mr. C left his walking cane in the cart at the store, so now he's using my wooden hiking staff, and that is working okay. I call it my ruffian whacker, for when I'm in the woods on my own. Dual purpose support! He fell out of the car, too, like you. I was in the driver's seat, waiting for him to get in, and he got one leg in and then didn't have enough strength or momentum to follow through. He just started to sag, and had subsided to the ground in slow motion before I realized what was going on and could run around to help. No harm done, except it's so frustrating and troublesome for him. Oh well, we have a good time in between disasters, and what more can we ask for. Hang in there, dear Mr. Jones. I hope you get your trip rescheduled soon. All the best, Easterncedar

Peter, Keep your feet mate! lol Seriously, watch the falls. A PSP patient we know fell and had a brain bleed and concussion. Not a place you'd want to visit mate! With PSP a trip to the hospital (physical not mental lol) won't do you any good and probably something bad. How many pints did you have when you fell? What pub were you visiting? You neglected to tell us that part of the story mate. lol

anyway thanks for your advice mate will inwardly digest it but I shall still fall over mate regardless its something I cant describe very well but I know it happens cause I have big black bruise on my ar\m and back that's why I know I have fallen over and it does not matter one single bit if my wife tells me to\ be more careful or the physio lady I know its not the last time i am going t fall what I worry about is getting up again as long as I can manage that I will be happy with myself so goodnight mr jimbo take care look after sharyn and tell her to hang in there see yer peter jones queensland Australia psp sufferer

jimandsharynp profile image
jimandsharynp in reply topeterjones

Peter, The danger in falls is not the bumps and bruises. The real danger is in breaking something that requires surgery (hip comes to mind). Going under anesthesia is definitely not good for dementia disease patients. PSP is in that category. My BIL who is a anesthesia nurse said many times dementia patients never get back to their pre-surgery status after having anesthesia for an operation. I don't think you want to go there. My Sharyn became immobile before any serious falls happened. Although she had early balance issues (feeling like she WOULD fall, she wasn't real overly prone to falling. Now bound by a Hoyer lift falls are off the agenda. Thanks for your posts. Jimbo

gmunsot profile image
gmunsot in reply tomarytea13

Marytea, thank you very much for your answer. Mi second question is:

What is the relation betwin PSP and Parkinson?.

Thanks again

Sharon637 profile image
Sharon637 in reply togmunsot

Dear Gmunshot

PSP is sometimes misdiagnosed as Parkinson's because the early symptoms are similar. PSP damages the parts of the brain that controls balance and movement so it can look similar. Unfortunately this is only a small part of the disease. In Parkinsons, medication can control the symptoms for a very long time. In PSP there is no medication to help and the disease is more aggressive so the life span is usually much shorter. I am keeping this very simple so the English is not too hard to follow. I have a document in Spanish that I prepared in case my father had to go into hospital which outlined his main symptoms and problems approximately 9 months before his death. I could send this to you if you think it will help.

Kindest Regards

Sharon

yes of course. I will try to find it as soon as I can this week and send it to you. It deals directly with his specific symptoms so the nursing staff knew what to expect and everyone is different. This was several years in to the illness so there were a few!

I am sorry to hear of your illness. The document prepared was for the nursing staff if my father had to be treated in hospital, it mentions his specific symptoms at the time. I will find it as soon as I can this week and send it to you but please do not let it frighten you. If you have Parkinson's Disease you will not develop many of these symptoms and hopefully your neurologist will be able to provide medication to control your symptoms. Take care!

Sorry if uncomfortable to them.

This Forum took ideas, techniques and information that do not tell the doctors, to take care of my mother who died of psp on April 18.

I live in Northern mexico, there's also psp, 4 cases we have had in my family until today (and assumes that psp is not genetic). We have to much information for this disease

I understand that this forum helps everyone regardless of the language that we speak.

Those who speak Spanish we make an effort to communicate in their language. do you not do why?, it is as easy as using a translator.

This disease is unpleasant and painful and will it more if we do not help each other.
