my mom screams a lot and she is very restless , is she in pain .what should we do to comfort her .
Dear Bhawnapandey,
I feel anyone who screams is in pain. Have you sort the advice of medical professionals in your area?
Consider when do the screams occur, are the following something done, Does your Mom rest, sleep, are they directed are someone, do they seem to be screams of frustration, screams of internal physical pain?

Hello
It must be very confronting and disturbing to hear your mom scream.
Please have a look at a previous blog by typing "Moaning Revisited" in the search box at the top of this page on the right. Hopefully, you'll find more information.
(It's usually associated with increasing "dementia" that can be part of PSP/CBD and/or co-existing Alzheimer's in some sufferers. Medications can be used under the supervision of a neurologist, but the side effects can be quite unpleasant. Most moaning/noises are not usually associated with physical pain in PSP, and screaming is common in Alzeimer's even if there is no evidence of pain. However, every effort should be made to check on the possibility of pain - from sores to UTI's and constipation to arthritic pain and being under nourished Apart from screaming, one looks for other signs of physical pain like facial expressions and excessive limb movements. Being unable to express oneself can cause anxiety and frustration, resulting in screaming)
Comforting the sufferer will involve many approaches and hopefully you can discuss this matter with your neurologist or geriatrician.
Take care
T.
My wife who has PSP moans when she is cold - I use an ear thermometer and if her temperature is slightly below normal I add blankets - recently purchased an electric blanket - once she is warm she quiets down
My dear father had spells of moaning, agitation and restlessness. His brows would furrow from pain. That's when we started pain meds and/or muscle relaxers on an as needed basis. Made a huge difference. He was able to sleep longer and seemed much more comfortable. Hugs to you and your mom.
