Hello,im going to try & keep this short at this stage,i need some advice hopefully from a member who has gone through the same as me but has been diagnosed with pmp some time after being told their appendix tumour was benign. In 2020 after weeks of thinking i had a groin strain my doctor sent me to hospital with a letter regarding poss appendix problem,i was scanned then operated on to remove my appendix engorged with a tumour that showed a rupture, i was informed of the tumour the day after the op by the surgeon,it was sent to Basingstoke for biopsy by prof carr,in the following 2 weeks of waiting i was appointed a nurse by telephone who said she was supporting me should i have to go to basingstoke or christie manchester, the results came back saying prof carr didnt think the tumour or mucin that was on my stomach lining was showing cancerous signs,so on i got with my life apart from some visits back to the local hospital to see the stomach specialist regarding pain,he said all would settle through time but put it across that maybe i was over reacting a little,(despite being told i was one of only 2 people in the whole north east of england to have an appendix tumour that year)now 2024 & ive been to my GP twice in a month regarding stomach issues feeling of fullness not eating as much lost some weight without trying so on, i have been refered on the 2 week waiting list to a specialist & waiting on a date.i would like to hear from anyone who has gone through the same with a appendix tumour thats told its benign only to find some time later to be diagnosed with pmp thank you.

Hi - thought I would jump on and try to answer a few things for you, I am not a member who has gone through the same as you (i.e. been diagnosed with pmp some time after being told their appendix tumour was benign), I was originally diagnosed in 2003 and the pathology I was given did change over time but for different reasons. My understanding is that the appendix tumour may very have been benign, though mucin that escapes into the abdominal cavity can become PMP over time. We have a comprehensive description on our website here - pseudomyxomasurvivor.org/ps.... I hope you get some answers from the specialists soon and fingers crossed for a good outcome.
