Dear All,Following on from everybody's wonderful advice and comments last year I just thought that maybe some people in the community might be wondering how things are panning out a year on from my Retzius-sparing RALP with frozen sections here on the other side of the pond.
I would report that my last 4 psa tests have been below 0.025. That I have full continence and full erectile function. I mostly sleep through the night without needing to get up, and the flow is vastly improved.
So, touch wood, it seems that I have had a "bit of a result".
I suppose the message to the people going through the nightmares of being diagnosed with prostate cancer and trying to decide what to do is that if the cancer is detected early then there are curative treatments which will deal with the cancer and that there is no real impairment in quality of life post treatment.
Thanks once again for everybody's help last year with everyone who posted a comment when there were more questions than answers swimming around my head. Great work in supporting men in their hour of need. It truly is much appreciated.
Cheers
WYWH

Thanks...yes tracking the old M3 keeps me young! Yeah, been <.02 for 3 years now and I'm getting ready for full-time fun...retiring 5/25. Like you said, PC changed my plans as well and certainly gave me a kick-in-the-ass concerning the game of life!
Dear London441,My story I a nutshell. GP (NHS)said I had BPH. Did not believe her so went private because my family history, brother and father with pc , psa of 5 and within 3 weeks told that I had 3+4 gleason grade pc. I was on active surveillance for 3 months but the first psa test had gone to 9. So curative options were Retzius-sparing RALP or radiation. Radiation had the promise of making my bad urinary symptoms worse so I went for Retzius-sparing RALP. I had it at Guys hosp. Prof Chris Eden. So from the time I was given the diagnosis (June) to the time they cut it out was only 18 weeks.
Once the prostate was whipped out there was a pathologist in the operating theatre who check the prostate to see if there was a cancer issue adjacent to the capsule. Luckily there was no such problem so the vascular and nerve bundles were saved because there was a clear margin.
The pathology report revealed that I had 2 lesions but the MRI scans showed only one. They say that the reason for the increase in psa could have been down to the second lesion starting to develop and hence producing more PSA?
I hope that this thumbnail overview is of some help especially if you are in the UK.
Congratulations on a great result. I had a huge prostate and suffered with BPH for many years. Hence, like you I chose RP over radiation six years ago. So far so good. Wishing you all the best going forward.
Hi WYWH, congratulations on an excellent result from Prof Chris Eden. I did contact him about a RALP at Guildford, but I decided to go down the RT route in the end. I had 37 sessions back in March/April near Portsmouth, UK, and PSA now <0.006 for last 2 readings. Cheers, Mark.
