SAK 09/10 concludes: "Conventional-dose SRT to the prostate bed is sufficient in patients with early biochemical progression of prostate cancer after RP." But a closer look reveals that it is still very much a judgment call:
Lower salvage radiation dose - are ou... - Prostate Cancer N...
Lower salvage radiation dose - are outcomes the same?
Thanks for posting this.
Included in the equation should also be work productivity and HRU (health resource utilization). Then 32 treatments is not a great improvement over 35 treatments but 5 sessions with SBRT is. I think that treatment with fewer sessions is the direction to go especially in countries where we have tax-financed health care.
I saw the billing done for my 38 sessions of Salvage Radiation where each session was billed at $6919/session, and $1622/ 3 minute interview with the RO weekly to ask me..."so how are you doing?" The total billing for things like the 5 minutes to make a form for my legs ($5146) was over $250,000!!!! Any wonder why the medical costs in the USA are OUT OF CONTROL? I see where people with less coverage for insurance would find fewer treatments desirable.
