Hi, I've just started the 6 monthly hormone injections in the bum, now my question is is it 6 calendar months ie:- 26 weeks, or 6 x 4 weeks :- 24 weeks?. the nurse at the surgery was vague on this point

Sorry I should have said, LH RH analogue, 6 monthly to block testosterone.

Why would you get monthly shots? The whole advantage of LHRH agonists is that you can get more convenient 3,4, or 6-month shots. Anyway a couple of days ± doesn't matter - testosterone production will take more than a week to recover.

My question was 24 weeks or 26 weeks

You don't calculate weeks - it's 6 months. So if your first shot was March 15, your second shot should be September 15 ± a few days.

So why do the 3 month injections specify 12 weeks?

Which LHRH agonist? Eligard says months.

Just follow whatever schedule your oncologist tells you to.

The doctor tried to give you the shot every three months, but there is a 3 or 4 day window.

Many men will confirm that in fact a delay of 2 - 3 weeks is insignificant.

Once the ADT starts to work (within days typically) it takes roughly the same amount of time to withdraw from the drug.

This is NOT something to get upset over or cause panic.

My shots in the past went off cycle by more than 2 weeks and everything worked out fine.

You should to do some supplemental reading because it appears that you have a lot to learn about your treatment(s).

The tricky part of supplemental reading is to identify what is pertinent for you, because information overload is possible if you assume things that aren't relevant.

We wish you well - keep us posted.

Well thank you all for your replies, I have received an answer form the company.

Re: Decapeptyl SR (triptorelin) – Injection interval and early/delayed administration Thank you for your enquiry regarding Decapeptyl SR (triptorelin) which was forwarded to me by my colleague.

I understand that you are interested in the time between injections in weeks for Decapeptyl SR 22.5 mg (6-monthly).

Licensed information The recommended posology for Decapeptyl SR (triptorelin) 22.5 mg is one intramuscular injection administered every 6 months or 24 weeks.

I don't think it's that precise, which is OK because it takes several weeks for any significant amount of T to recover naturally.

Assuming you are calling ADT “hormone treatment” it’s far from precise. My opinion..... stay on the long end of your target due dates. Again... my opinion only (other than I understand it’s practiced in Europe) I feel you should have injections as needed. There is tremendous over lap in your treatment schedule. ADT simply keeps you chemically castrated. You will remain that way l...o...n...g after your treatments stop.

One can’t be a little bit pregnant thus you can’t be a little bit castrated (under normal conditions). It was one full year after my last 3mo Eligard injection before I crept above the castration rate of 50, to 103. 6 months after that, I just now entered the normal testosterone range (albeit, in the basement) of >300. Granted at the rate and duration of injections, there will be some sort of saturation causing this, but for those that were found to be allergic to the ingredients of Eligard, this has proven to be catastrophic towards our QoL. To this date, I’m now 18 months off the drug with typical andropause SE’s are long gone now, but the far less common SE’s (assumed to be related to the drug itself) are unrelenting.

Summary; less drugs (without compromising your treatment) = is a good thing. You schedule is based upon the SoC (standards of care) and more-so solely by the Manufacturer’s recommendations!

Ask for the tri monthy shot . No reason not to . Good luck . 👍

The reason I went for the 6 monthly shots is that in "normal" times we spend up to 4 months away in our caravan touring Europe so a 12 weeks shot wouldn't work out for us, thanks for your reply
