Family man and 63, I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area).
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer this last Feb. My diagnosis:
> Biopsy reported - Gleason score of 9, aggressive in 9 of 12 samples
> Scans reported - cancer not found elsewhere. non-metastatic
My urologist presented and discussed available options. I decided to undergo a radical prostatectomy (RP). After I made this decision he mentioned a clinical trial I may qualify for. He discussed it with me briefly. It sparked interest, so he referred me to an oncologist. In addition, detailed information on the trial was sent to me.
I met with the oncologist, where we discussed in detail the trial. I agreed to the trial. After a review of medical history and lab work, I was offered to join. I am now 6 weeks into this trial: clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...
My RP is scheduled for early June.

That's an interesting looking trial you've joined. I like it for a bunch of reasons. It's being conducted at a famous cancer center, it's trying out some new and promising treatments, the new treatments are on top of a standard treatment (prostatectomy) instead of in place of it, you'll get better follow-up in both quality and quantity than you would usually get from a private practice urologist and, if the trial is successful, you'll have helped a lot of other patients who will follow you.
AlanMeyer, thank you for your kind words! When I was offered this trial, I was told it would be like throwing the kitchen sink at it. The hope is that pathological studies of bio-specimens after the RP, provide good information on effectiveness of these ADT meds. working together. I have the greatest confidence in my doctors at UWMC. They and I hope this trial becomes a win/win situation, for both my longevity and research!
