Research for wet AMD
Research for new wet AMD treatments is looking at longer-lasting medication, so that patients can go longer between treatments.
Beovu® (brolucizumab)
Beovu is a new anti-VEGF drug which could allow people to have an injection only once every 12 weeks. We are currently awaiting NICE and Scottish Medicines Consortium decisions. The Scottish Medicines Consortium has approved Beovu in 2020, we are awaiting for NICE to approve it for the rest of the UK in 20201.
Port delivery system
Roche’s port delivery system (PDS) is a tiny implant containing a reservoir of Lucentis and which releases the drug into the eye gradually. This will mean patients do not need injections and will need to attend the eye clinic only every six months for a top-up.
