Can I take part in research?

There are a few ways to take part in clinical trials.

You could get in touch with the hospital and find out if they are a research hospital. If so, ask to be on their research database of volunteers to take part in any trials they are conducting.

You could also register for our research database. Fill in a few details here and we’ll contact you if there are any trials in your area that you could be suited for.

Or search the NIHR website for clinical trials across the UK, to find any that may be of interest. You can filter by specific conditions and age range.

Search the WHO website for clinical trials in other countries.

Not sure what to expect? Read about other people's experiences with clinical trials here.

It is important to be aware that the presence of trials on these websites does not mean that they have been evaluated by an ethics committee, or given scientific approval. Therefore if a trial is of any interest, it is important to check with your ophthalmologist whether they think it is reputable and ethically approved.

Find out more about how a clinical trial works and what the procedure is on the NHS website.

For a more in-depth look into clinical trials, Health Unlocked has created a programme on Understanding Clinical Trials.
