Omeprazole is generally seen as safe in pregnancy, when your doc knows you're pregnant and that you're taking it. Have you tried the boring stuff like milk and plain probiotic yoghurts yet?

Personally ive never heard of these pills you've mentioned. Were they prescribed by the G.P or another healthcare proffesional?

if they were they should be "reletatively" safe to take. If in any dougt you could also get a 2nd oppinion by asking / calling NHS Direct.

xx

Milk makes me feel sick,I suffer with bad ibs...Anyway was taking prozac for it and pms and it really helped but stopped taking it as risk of heart defect baby, the Dr said I could stay on them but I decided against it

Pop to see your GP to get them to sanction continued use of omeprazole. Calling NHS direct would be pointless - you will get a nurse who will advice you to see a doctor!

I really feel for you -IBS in pregnancy must be hell, as most useful medications (buscopan, domperidone, etc) are contra- indicated :-(

Hope your stomach settles

Xx

Got them before I was pregnant x

O.k if the pills were given to you before you discovered you were pregnant its most likley your G.p isnt aware you are thinking of taking them.

I would definetly ask your G.p or midwife about taking them now.

Will check with them. .. Other half got me some gaviscon disgusting aniseed but better than nothing :)

Gaviscon Cool is minty rather than aniseed

Peppermint cordial is also great for a bit of heartburn/tummy upset - often used first line in the elderly before adding yet more tablets to their pill burden!!

I much prefer the mint one but he reckons they didn't have it! What about peppermint tea is that safe in pregnancy?

I had a similar thing in early stages of my pregnancy and was advised by the GP to take gavascon check with pharmacy before buying tho not all gavascon is same to take during pregnancy. Also bicarbonate soda and warm water is very good to realise gas and is very safe you only need a small amount to relieve a lot of gas. Peppermint tea is also safe to drink and effective although not nice. Xx

Does the bicarb with water taste horrible? ?I've never been good with soluble paracetamol used to make me heave and that sounds the same though the thought of releasing alot of gas sounds great! !!

I was on 20mg Omeprazole for expected chrons prior to pregnancy but advised by my GP and consultant gastro to come off of them. Many medications have too few trials for professionals to be able to say otherwise. I did ask the consultant if I could take them if desperate and he said that I could but should not take them daily, this was also the case with Loperamide. So I've been using gaviscon, rennie, milk & peppermint tea! I also stay away from anything fizzy or acidic.

My GP didn't know that you could take it, but I'm a nurse and had checked the safety of it in the BNF (medicine "bible" used by medical professions) and it says they are completely safe, so I referred him to that and he was quite happy! Have been taking it for half my pregnancy and it is a life saver.

I have coeliac and suffer the same pain and gas which is compounded now iim pregnant. One great way to move the gas, but not very dignified......is get on you knees and bend over and rest on your elbows, so your bum is in the air. Gas will alway rise to the top, so to speak, making it easier to pass. You can move your belly, by arching your back, I certainly finds it helps in days when I make my husband blush with the brass band in my belly!

Lol sometimes it's got to be done....better out than in trapped wind is awful! X

Trapped wind is awful & hurts, a lot! and I think we all get it from time to time, but for you hon it must be a nightmare.

I would recommend peppermint tea for sure & actually I think it's very nice. There are plenty of herbal teas to stay away from but peppermint is ok. It's also very good for digestion. Someone else has already pointed out that it's obviously worth steering well clear of anything acidic & you'll know what sets you off. I love the sound of gingerbaby's advice, my chap would find that hillarious!

I hope it all eases off for you very soon :) x
