I'm 15 weeks with my 4th, i came of my antidepressants as soon as i found out i was expecting, but my despression is getting worse by the day and doctors want to put me back on meds, has anyone got experience of this and if so is there any anti depressants that are safer while pregnant, thanks for your responses hopefully!

The evidence about the effects of anti-depressants during pregnancy are mixed. For example see telegraph.co.uk/health/heal... but also see medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

The fact is doctors cannot really know what the real effects are at the moment becuase they cannot do a clincial trial of pregnant women taking the anti-depressants. They can only gather data from women who happen to have taken them when pregant. It does look, though, that for women with moderate to severe depression the benefits outweight the risks. Talk to your doctor again and let them know your fears about taking them.

I agree with or a, if your depression is getting worse then you should go back no them as the benefits will out weigh the cons. The doc may change what dose or brand you take to suite pregnancy. The last thing u need is to get more depressed.

Good luck x

you should ask your midwife to be referred to a specialist in this area.

I am taking my meds although I did come off them for a while and got worse.

You sometimes have to think what is best for the baby, is it good for you to be depressed while trying to cope with a pregnancy or a new baby? I felt completely out of control and the prospect of having a baby to look after was scaring me to death.

Mum has to be healthy to look after a new baby.

Ask about SSRIs as these can be safer in pregnancy.

I was diagnosed with depression and have m.e also. I started to take the tablets but after 4 days on the lowest dose I felt too guilty. i then went to see a nutritionist and it has totally changed me. I still get down and tired but after about 6 weeks I felt so much better. I now have veg and fruit juice everyday, and healthy ffuit and food and pregnancy vitamins. I get outside for a walk everyday, just a bit if fresh air really helps. And I take extra vitamin d and herbal teas, no white sugar, bread and no table salt just sea salt if needed.

Good luck, it's worth a try,It is odd how much food and drink can effect people.

I have stuck to it for around 3 months now, it;s not something I have ever done before but I am loving the jacket pots and hummous yummy!
