My little one is 3years old in about 2 weeks and I feel as though we are half way there with potty training. If we are at home and she doesn' t have her nappy on she will go on the potty successfully, she doesn't ask for the potty she just sits on it herself, but as soon as we put training pants or a pull up on, then she just does it in the nappy/training pants, doesn't make an attempt to pull it down until she's already done the wee, by which time its too late. Anyone get any advice on how to tackle this?

sounds like she’s doing really well! I’d just get rid of the nappies etc now (except for bedtime of course) as she sounds like she’s confident on what to do, just probably finds the nappy easier when it’s on - my son was similar around this stage of using the potty, and even told me nappies were easier when i asked him why he didn’t go to the toilet!
Our little girl 2yr 4 months is dry in the day, We never used training pants once she started to use the potty just went straight to knickers. We did lots of reminders to use the potty and lots of praise when she went on the potty. Even out and about now she in knickers, we just make sure to take her to the toilet wherever we are, especially if we're in a place she doesn't know where the toilet is. She had done really well and started pre-school out of nappies and has done really well. We just use a pull up overnight. I just find lots of reminding and praise and they get the hang of it pretty quick.
I’m in the same situation I think nappies training pants confuse them but there’s still too many ‘accidents’ to not put one on if we go to the soft play etc or somewhere I need to drive to in the car where he could potentially fall asleep as he isn’t yet able to hold it while sleeping. He doesn’t nap in the day unless we are in the car for a bit. Everything I’ve read says no nappies or training pants at all ;except at night) but I just don’t see how to avoid them without getting my car seat etc covered in wee or lots of accidents at days out where he is distracted !! I think he might just need some more practice in the house first before we try short trips out the house with no nappy. Wish you luck! And looking forward to stealing any tips you get in this post 🤗💜 x
if it helps - with my boy we ask him to try for a wee before we leave to go anywhere, unless we know he’s been recently. And have bought a my carry potty travel potty which has been really useful for out ne about, especially where there are no toilets near! He’s never wet himself in the car by doing this, and yes there have been accidents, but it’s just part of the process, and will pass xx
Thanks 😊 I will defo get a car potty he’s just not quite at the stage to actually ask in time for me to stop and use it or for a wee very often when we are out and about for some reason and we ask if he needs one it’s always no no no (too busy probs 😆) ! And if he does we have about 2.3 seconds to find a loo 😂🤪 he’s so easily distracted and a very hyper toddler right now so it might be a bit better when it’s not winter and he’s outside more and less layers etc but we will persevere for sure! Thank again 🤗 xx
hello, our little girl is now 3 and half and been months since an accident. Think my advice on no nappies outside would be… it really never is as bad as you imagine it will be. I think I was dreading all this so much more than the actual event…! We put a car seat cover on the car and our little girl I think wet it only once. Same there were park/ soft play wees very rarely but no matter when you do it, it will happen. I think go for it, and trust your little girl and when the accidents happen which will likely be rarely, you’ll handle it. Everyone at these places is used to these things and most people out in public have had a little one at the exact stage you are at. We had a regression for about a week just before she was three and I stayed firm on not going back to nappies and we got through it and went back to using the toilet as normal. The feeling of the wee in pants is an uncomfortable one so when that happens it will also make the keenness to go to the toilet stronger. good luck!! Sounds like she’s doing amazing and ready for the next step
