Left side pain during pregnancy

Hello. I am 12+2 week pregnant and I started to feel a slight pain in my left side tummy between my waist and hip I don't feel it always, just somethimes and just when I press that area or when I am turning to my left side in bed, or waking up from a sitting position but sometimes i dind't feel pain at all. It started about 3 days ago after a really hard stool. i am terrified that this is diverticular disease, because i read about this online. My GP said that he thinks it is just some muscle pain and nothing to worry about. Has anyone been like this before?

Hi I had something similar but further down the line in pregnancy and it turned out it was some sort of bacterial infection and therefore needed some antibiotics, I would go get it checked out from a different GP and demand a second opinion also seek advise from your midwife. It may not be that and could be muscle strain as your body Is growing to accomodate a baby, but I would still go see someone now .

I would speak to my midwife about it, hopefully they can help too and let you know if they should see you or try GP again if you are worried. I get a pain on my lower right abdomen - from my hip/groin and up my stomach from time to time - I was told it is the ligament stretching with my uterus. I am 22 weeks tomorrow. Read round ligament pain are common in 2nd trimester, but not sure how early you can feel it.

But I would speak to the midwife to be sure.

Hope you are ok and that it eases soon for you!

It sounds like round ligament pain. I always got it on the left side. If you’re worried get checked out though.

I had this at 12 weeks. It was unsettling but when I spoke to the midwife she said it was round ligament pain. I am 25 weeks now and have had this on and off since. If you are concerned though it is always worth speaking to your midwife xxx

Hi Szabina91, congratulations on your pregnancy! I gave birth to my little boy in January but when pregnant I experienced the exact same pain especially towards the end of my pregnancy. If your GP doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about then I’d definitely say listen. I had so much muscle pain during my pregnancy & usually taking paracetamol also helped ease the pain at times. It’s also normal to have hard stools & strain down below because there is so much pressure being place on that area of your body because of the baby. So be aware if might be like that for the rest of your pregnancy but it’s nothing to worry about. I experienced that throughout my pregnancy & my midwife advised me to take some laxative to help ease everything out.

Hope this helps! & if I can give you one advise it would be to rest as much as you possibly can xx
