Hi after some advice was due to have my dating scan tomorrow it got cancelled by the hospital due to staffing issues, is this normal? Unfortunately they weren’t able to offer me an alternative date for the scan, should I wait for the hospital to contact me or should I contact them? Also do I need to let me midwife know?

Cancelled dating scan
Hello, sorry to hear your scan has been cancelled - must be frustrating. Due to everything going on I personally be have booked private scans all the way through to avoid disappointment and due to them booking my ‘booking appointment’ at my 14weeks - which is late and started to wonder when my first scan was going to be booked in. Fingers crossed they get back to you with new dates soon!
Thanks very frustrating and a massive disappointment something my partner and me were looking forwards to. Being 13 and half weeks thought it was a good time to have it but now I’m at a loss of what to do. Might explore the private scan option today. Hope all goes well with yours.
I think it’s absolutely disgusting no matter what’s going on, at the current time there is no support for pregnant women and it makes me so angry. I understand we are mid pandemic but there are other issues going on in the world and growing a tiny human should be taken seriously and it’s not. I have just found out I’m pregnant again after 2 previous losses one after the other and they do not care to monitor me after I have begged them for my own peace of mind, absolutely disgusting it really is. Hope they get it rebooked for you ASAP, if they don’t I would consider asking for the hospitals complaint procedure and putting one in! There is no excuse, pandemic or not sorry but there isn’t!
I'm sorry this has happened. Pandemic or not this sort of thing does occasionally happen in the NHS and private sector. People call in sick and there is no extra staff to cover - you dont want the receptionist or assistant to do your scan after all.
If you've not heard anything in a few days I would chase them.
If you do chose to spend money on a private scan make sure it is someone that is appropriately trained. Many companies only train to do basic scans for pretty pictures and actually arent trained to pick up medical problems. I cancelled one scan after inquiring into her qualifications which were close to zero. She advised me if I wanted to get a medical scan to wait for my NHS one.
