Hi, had a scan at EPU today following cramping and although baby was measuring the right size it unfortunately had no heartbeat. Just over 8 weeks. Have been given a leaflet on management options but was just looking to see how people decided what to go for? I had a natural miscarriage in August and the bleeding lasted for such a long time and not sure I want to wait it out. Medical management would be a day visit in hospital, they said I wouldn't be able to do it at home which I would have preferred.
Also any tips on coping with this for a second time would be much appreciated, can't believe it's happening again
Thanks x

I'm sorry for your loss, it's so hard, getting to that scan and finding out, my heart just breaks for you.I had the surgery when I had my missed miscarriage, it was the manual vacuum aspiration that I was offered, it was very quick and relatively pain free, I had to take a tablet the evening before and then they gave me local anaesthetic and gas and air during the procedure. I would definitely recommend it if they can offer our to you. I had very little pain, and minimal bleeding afterwards.
Thanks, they have offered this but am sure the lady said it would be general anaesthetic. I'll maybe ask when I speak to them tomorrow to see if local would be an option. Good to know it was straight forward for you so thank you for replying x
So sorry to hear this, heartbreaking especially for a second time. Sending lots of love.
I miscarried in October (10 weeks) and was advised I had to try the tablets first due to the COVID situation. However I think given the option I may have gone with the other option just so it was done. The waiting around and “has it all done what it should?” etc just dragged on a horrible experience even more.
However I think you may need to wait longer to try again if you go with the MVA option? I could be wrong! Just something you may need to consider if this influences your decision.
I really hope next year brings you some happier news xx
Yeah that's what I'm worried about with the medical that it goes on forever, and having to go through that in hospital. I was at home for my previous miscarriage and i was actually pretty grateful as I didn't need to see/speak to anyone and was in my own bed. Will find out about having to wait if surgical - time isn't really on my side but might be better giving it a few months before trying again anyway.Thank you for replying and hoping for a brighter 2021 for you too x
Did they not mean just to administer in hospital? They confused me with it too and I was in and out in half an hour. I was expecting to be there all day!
I feel you on the time, I’m approaching late 30’s so it feel like it’s now or never...
If you do want to try again quite quickly after the MVA you can. I had mine carried out in September 2018, had a period in October and was pregnant by the November and went on to have a baby girl in the August 2019. So there isn't any reason to not try again just because you go down the surgery option.
The nurses were absolutely amazing that carried mine out and we just do loving and caring. I also made full use of the gas and air, which totally made me feel a million miles away from where I was.
So sorry to hear this has happened to you for a second time - it’s so unfair. Don’t really have any advice but just wanted to say you’re not alone. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks at the end of June and it really is just utterly shit. Due to COVID I wasn’t given any other option other than to do it at home, I’d also already started bleeding so that’s maybe why too. Whatever you decide I’ll be thinking about you. Take all the time you need to recover physically and process everything. There’s no right or wrong way. Take care. ❤️
I’m so sorry to hear this, I really feel for you. I had a scan at 8 weeks to find the baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. It’s such a horrible experience.I chose to have the evacuation (d&c) as my preference was for it to be over as soon as possible. I had a general anaesthetic and was a day patient. I didn’t feel any pain at all. I had some bleeding after but not really beyond the next day. It certainly wasn’t the best experience I’ve ever had but the nurses were very kind and I was home and comfortable in my own home later that day ready to begin the journey of moving on.
I totally appreciate this is a really crap experience however, don’t lose hope that things will get better. Be kind to yourself xx
Hi, so sorry you are going through this the second time 😥. Am currently pregnant and this is my first pregnancy, however it’s not going to plan and I am miscarriage in. it’s so heart breaking so know how you feel, how ever I have been advised to go two ways which is the safest options first. Either go naturally or have the tablet which they insert them self at the hospital and then you can go home. Well where I am they said I can go home. They have gave me two weeks to see if it will be a natural miscarriage, which I have started and in the progress of going through. If this is not successful then I’ll be having the tablet. She didn’t like the idea of the scrape if you like as they can cause damage. ( not for everyone and people have had it done and had an healthy baby after.) that one in my eyes when reading the possibility that could go wrong scared me. But sometime you have no choice if the other two methods didn’t work. Also it all depends how far you are if you have to stay in hospital and depends what method you have done. I hope you get to resolve your question and I wish you all the best in the near future. Stay strong, positive and you will have your turn of being a mummy ❤️
Sorry for your loss x I’ve had a mva manual vacuum aspiration aswel was pretty easy relatively painless you’re awake a d&c you’re put to sleep but similar procedure. Bleeding is minimal compared to natural. As I was conceiving naturally it did take me quite some time to fall pregnant again I wondered if it was the mva but the clinic couldn’t see anything abnormal in a scan then I had a hsg after I did have 2 chemicals after then this pregnancy which is going good so far.
I’ve had several misc and this time I’ve had to have medical management (normally it just happens by itself), Mine happened 7 weeks ago and I’ve had medical management twice and I’m still showing as pregnant. Due to covid they’re unable to offer the operation
Thank you for all the responses - I'm so sorry to read of all the losses and sadness but sharing your stories has helped me consider the options so thank you x
Sorry to hear this, it’s heart breaking. I had a mmc back in March, was 5 weeks from when the baby stopped growing until I passed naturally, I opted to have the op to remove the baby as I couldn’t think of anything worse than having to pass this at some point, I read stories about people actually being able to see the baby and it put me off! Unfortunately it was a 4 week wait for this and by that point I had already passed. Although it was horrible I think it’s the most natural and safe way and so I’d always recommend this. I hope you are okay and can start the new year with an open mind and be filled with happiness once again x best of luck and happy new year xx
