Storing breast milk

I am currently both breastfeeding and expressing via an electric pump so my partner is able to feed our baby. Because I’m breastfeeding on demand (normally every hour) I’m only getting around 60ml a time from expressing and he can drink that in a matter of minutes and still be hungry.. my question is, how does it work with adding milk to milk that’s already been expressed and is either in the fridge or out at room temp? Can I top the bottle up with milk or would I have to keep it separate and give him more in another bottle once he finishes the first one?

Sorry if my question isn’t very clear I don’t know how else to explain it!

Hi, I haven’t expressed for a while but from what I remember you shouldn’t add warm (fresh breast milk) to cold milk in the fridge. I would put it in a separate milk bag or bottle in the fridge and then mix the two together once the new batch had gotten cold.

If you’re getting 60ml off at a time with that much on demand feeding that sounds about right.

You can top up your expressed milk that you’ve got stored at room temperature with any new milk you express but you should only really keep milk out at room temperature for about 3 hours especially at this time of year when heating is on and houses are warmer.

Hope that helps

Also look at pace feeding 😊 but Hopettc18 has said what I would say 😊 and your pumping isn’t an indication of how much your baby is receiving on boob😊 xx
