D negative blood test

Hi so this is my first pregnancy I have had a dating scan (11+6 days today) but they couldn’t get a proper picture/do the syndrome test because the baby was in an awkward position so I have another scan next week. Anyway today I had a letter come through for an appointment about D negative blood tests? Hate to sound stupid but I have no idea what this is for and my midwife never mentioned it? I’ve rang the ward where my appointment is and the receptionist was non the wiser, I have no idea what my blood type is and am now worried maybe something is wrong. If anyone knows anything about this would be greatly appreciated x

Some women have negative blood type which means they need to have a type of injection to prevent issues in future pregnancies.

Here's some info from NHS website.

Just double checked on my maternity app my blood type is O- so I assume that’s why, will have a read, thank you for your reply 😊

As a fellow O-, we're universal doners, which means we can give our blood to anyone, but can only accept our own kind. I donate my blood regularly and we're treated like royalty as our blood is the one you always hear shouted across the medical shows in emergencies. We're not rare but we're very special 😁

In pregnancy it just means unless your partner is also O- your will most likely be a different blood type, it just means you normally have an anti D injection later on in pregnancy and after you give birth. They'll also give you one of you have any bleeding in pregnancy just as a precautions. So it's not anything to worry about. Xx

Thank you for replying it’s put my mind at ease! No one tells you any of this they just mention the glowing which is very much false advertisement 😂 xx

I'm sure the only reason people glow is because you become a furnace while you're pregnant. I still can't bear wearing a coat now as I get too hot and my little one is a year old now. Luckily by the time I've packed for her going out, snacks, nappy, toys, water I normally forgot anything for me and have been known to not even change out of my slippers 😂
