Back spasms = start of labour?

I’ve been having sharp spasms in my lower back since early this morning. They’re irregular and last only a few seconds but are very painful. Could this be an early sign labour is coming? I’m 39+1 so anything is possible!!!

Could be, time it to be safe and keep a track of when they happen just so if nothing does happen, you can report this back to your midwife at your 40 week appt xx

Reasons being, if only a few seconds long it’s very unusual for them to be described as v painful. Also “spasm” isn’t a word I’ve heard someone describe labour pains as before.

That being said, sometimes one system in that region sets of another region. It’s common for people to have some diarrhoea shortly before labour. Sometimes some early cramping might be going on and you don’t feel that but you feel your bowels doing their own thing as a result. So you never know! Fingers crossed!
