Baby Head Control

I have 10 week old twin girls. One twin has really good head control and the other doesn’t lift her head at all. We’ve tried lots of tummy time but she just doesn’t lift it. Should I be worried at this stage? They were born at 37 weeks so classed as full term but the weaker twin had a low birth weight of 4lb 14.5oz. She’s a healthy 9.5lbs now.

Any advice would be really appreciated x

I wouldn’t worry at this stage. It will come with time. One of my twins could control her head before her brother and was sitting up unassisted at 5 months. They do things at different times. It’s probably also because you have one to compare to! If you are still worried in 4 weeks or so maybe call your health visitor x

Personally I would speak to your Health Visitor soon as it may take a little time for them to be able to see you, especially in the current situation. That way if a GP appointment/ Physio referral is needed then this would help to minimise any potential wait and you can hopefully get the advice you need to promote her development from the earliest opportunity. I have an almost 10 week old and honestly don’t know how people manage with twins so I applaud you!! xx

I’d relax to be honest... my twins were 8 weeks prem and they’re now 16 weeks. Twin 1 started holding her head weeks ago and twin 2 only this week. I find that their development is out of sync and rapid when it happens so honestly just give it time.

Thank you. It’s reassuring to hear from someone who’s been in a similar situation. Hope your twins are well xx
